I have an idea for a product based on my current expertise and profession. I'm wondering how I should begin developing this idea?

Your enthusiasm and sense of urgency both come through strongly in your question...

And your enthusiasm is awesome! But I'd recommend you slow down a bit regarding a search for how to develop the idea.

Almost every new entrepreneur starts with "I have an idea for a product..." and unfortunately that statement usually also leads them down the proverbial rabbit-hole.

I'd strongly suggest you find a coach / mentor to help you work your way through this critical time. I've personally been down that rabbit-hole and learned that even the best product can go nowhere with the Ready-Fire-Aim approach.

Your questions indicate you are overwhelmed and not sure what steps to take. I'd warn you to be wary of anyone offering a "blueprint" or "solution" they can sell you that suggests they can make it easy for you.

The journey you are (potentially) about to embark on is no easy journey. But you should rejoice in that challenge. Remember - no risk... no reward.

It's a delicate balance - keeping your head in the clouds but your feet on the ground. But that's something every entrepreneur with vision has to contend with.

What tips would you provide for existing entrepreneur who's about to become a father for the first time, and wants to continue growing their startup?

The fact that you are asking means you likely already have your values worked out.
Some tips (and BTW - I have 2 kids currently 6 and 9 and I started several ventures between 2005 and today):
1. Create Boundaries
Block off time for business related activities versus family time. And adhere to them.
2. Be Efficient
Eliminate time wasters and focus on your most important activities only. Delegate the rest (assuming you have someone to delegate to - if you don't then hire a part time assistant... money very well spent!)
3. Exercise and eat healthy foods
With the very likely sleep deprivation you're about to experience you'll need every advantage you can get to stay sharp. Poor fitness levels and a crappy diet will kill you! Short (20 minute) high intensity workouts and simple clean eating are the way to go.

How do I hire a good Copywriter?

1. Determine your budget based on the cost of acquisition of a customer
2. Determine your venue (i.e. web based copy for a landing page; direct response mailing; email autoresponder series; etc)
3. Determine your desired outcome (i.e. metrics you will use to monitor your ROI)

The more specific you are about what you are looking for - the better your chances of finding it. Hiring a copywriter is just like hiring for any other position.

I believe that "charismatic" isn't something you call yourself - It's something your audience / team / followers calls you.

Whats the best way to protect yourself from the competition that will arise after you launch a product?

I get asked some form of this question quite a lot...Mainly from new entrepreneurs or hopeful inventors.

My answer is: There's probably nothing you can do to prevent someone from jumping in and competing with you.

I say probably because it's possible for an individual or company to have a unique set of resources or skills that the potential competition does not have access to. In those cases competition is less of a "concern". But sooner or later even those advantages will give way and if there's money to be made - competition will step in.

The BIGGER challenge is that just having a novel idea doesn't guarantee anything. You can have a fantastic idea and fail. You can have an amazing service or product and go broke.

Creating a business is MORE than just having a great idea or a great product/service.

And business success comes from a combination of things - some you control and some you don't.

There will ALWAYS be competition. And thank goodness for that! Let it motivate and inspire you - to find unique ways to add value, serve markets, develop and deliver products and services. And if the competition steps in and challenges you - respond by being even MORE passionate about adding value.

How to learn sales quickly?

Get out and sell.
Get in front of as many people as you possibly can as fast as you can.
Learn your own style. Build a strong value proposition. Discover what your market wants. Create a "funnel".
If you insist on reading - make sure that the method | process | system matches your values.

Is it better to have focus on one service offering or have many service offerings to gain more market share, faster?

Depends on your business model.
If you search you'll find examples of businesses that have had success with both of those models (and if you are starting with a "preference" for one or the other - beware of confirmation bias).
Your question also states that you are after "more market share, faster." Another caution is to beware of vanity numbers and lack of specificity.
If you've mapped out a good business model you'll know your numbers (projected margins, cost of acquisition, break-even points) - and instead of using vague qualitative words like "more" and "faster" you will have targets that you can track and key metrics to measure.

What are some daily rituals and habits that have been effective for you in producing results in your business?

1. Differentiate Between Days to Produce and Days to Create
I pre-schedule which days (and time blocks in those days) will be for money making activities (literally those activities that are directly linked to income generation such as being on stage and speaking, in a room with my clients, closing sales, etc) versus those where I'm creating content, generating new business ideas, networking, developing marketing materials, etc. This allows me to focus on both working in it and working on it.

2. Keep a Digital Voice Recorder With Me at All Times (with a spare battery!)
Ideas seem to pop up all of the time - and I used to be a "write it down" guy who ended up with a pocket full of scrap papers and post it notes. Now I just talk the idea through and record it. At the end of the week I transfer the audio files to my pc, listen to them (using a media app that lets me play them at 2x speed) and transcribe my notes to a google document.

3. Planned Days Off - No Business Allowed
Being an entrepreneur takes energy. So "charging your batteries" is critical. Do things you love outside of working (even if you LOVE to work). Personally I take the day off and go fly fishing 1-2 days per month. It does wonders for clearing my head, relaxing me, and getting me prepped and ready for the week to come!

These rituals and habits are things you will benefit from starting to do TODAY. You'll not only be more productive, you'll find greater joy in what you do (and have less stress). For more tips - let's talk.

What do you suggest for direct mail if I'm seeking motivated homeowners with equity, to buy at a significant discount

1. Make sure you have a great list. By "great" I mean targeted to the specific demographic and psychographic profile of your market.
2. Make sure you have a great message and offer.
3. If you aren't a skilled copywriter - hire one. Consider your cost of client acquisition (and if you haven't calculated your cost of acquisition - you need to before you do ANY marketing) when deciding on how much you can afford.
4. Split test the mailing so you can find your control.
5. Measure everything.
