As an entrepreneur, investor, and international keynote speaker, Marcel is committed to using his experience and skills in both inspiring entrepreneurs globally and supporting the advancement of the emerging startup ecosystems across the Middle East and Africa. In 2012, Marcel founded Doctor in Your Pocket, a global digital medical concierge service available in 180+ cities, giving international travelers access to trusted local, virtual, and house call doctors around the clock anywhere in the world. The company already helped more than 1 Million travelers and was eventually acquired by Crisis Cover in March 2021. Recognizing the need for access to early-stage pre-seed capital in the MEA region, Marcel established The Gritti Fund, the world’s first investment fund supporting the founder’s performance, mental and physical, besides focusing its investment portfolio on the healthcare sector. The ultimate goal is to enhance the success rate of startups and therefore change the global investment paradigm for early-stage investments. Before his entrepreneurial endeavors, he worked on international healthcare projects at the World Health Organization, Harvard Business School, and as a healthcare management consultant at GfK. Marcel’s diverse work and expertise have been featured in Forbes, Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, World Economic Forum’s Agenda, TechCrunch, New York Times, Entrepreneur Magazine, and other industry-leading publications. In his free time, Marcel is a marathon runner, skydiver, and avid traveler. Marcel holds a medical degree from the University of Muenster, Germany, and a Master in Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins, USA.
