MenuHow do I get a client to adopt a beta SAAS product after a demo they requested?
I built a product that will solve a critical issue in the healthcare industry. I've never run a business before so would appreciate some advice. I know this product will change the healthcare industry landscape.
Our first client requested a demo. How do I get clients to signup after they have requested a demo? Should I charge an introductory fee for use of the beta?

great questions - we see this situation with our clients pretty frequently at my firm. based on my own years of SaaS/tech sales, marketing and project management experience, I would say the path most likely to get adoption is actually discovered before the demo is delivered, rather than after. that is to say, your way into the client should start with you thinking back on your initial conversations about their goals and their challenges. just as you likely did during the initial conversations, now is the time to connect what your product can do during the demo with how it addresses or responds to those challenges and goals. Curtail your demo to speak specifically to the things they have (directly or indirectly) expressed. If you're unsure, there are several good leading questions you can ask that will give you indicators as to which problems your product might he able to help them solve.
Beyond helping connect the dots, the value proposition you're offering here relates to what exactly you mean by a "beta" product. Beta can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Are you Beta in phase only (i.e. is your product debugged and more or less v1.0 full launch ready? Or, are you are just testing with a small group? Or, is Beta really a means of you finalizing your testing/debugging on the system prior to a larger launch?) so, how you get them to adopt (and how much or if you charge for this access) is driven by what it is your beta product is capable of doing at that point in time.
There is a pretty simple selling strategy that can be developed here - you need to make sure to create the appropriate checklist and evaluate your in-roads to a potential deal based on their stated or passively observed needs, curtail the demo to meet those needs, and then evaluate your own product so that you can build a plan for getting the "close" in from that potential client once you have completed the demo.

You need to get in contact with the person who requested the demo, and with them identify all the stakeholders who contribute to the decision. Then you need to talk to all those stakeholders.
It's great that "you know" your product will make a big difference for them...problem is, THEY have to believe that, too.
So your job is to find out where they're at. Do they share this belief? Are they skeptical? Have they been burned before? What questions do they have?
These things all need to be uncovered BEFORE you do any sort of presentation.
Finally, a word about language. If a person or company isn't yet using your solution, and hasn't paid for it, they aren't a "client"...they're a prospect.
So right now you have a good prospect. Find out as much as you can about them and the situation they are in.
What about a Proof of Concept (PoC)?
Would that not work?

Hi. I'm a Business Intelligence consultant with most of my customers being call centers. There are definitely guidelines you can apply but it will be based on several factors. Your question references ratios, which I assume means you would like to know how many agents per customer. That number will vary greatly depending on a number of other factors including: -what is your ASA target (Average speed of answer)? -what percentage of calls should meet the ASA? -are their penalties below a certain threshold (if less than 80% of calls meet ASA in 24 hours, for example) -how long are calls waiting when they don't meet ASA? -what is the call distribution by day of week, time of day and holiday v. non-holiday. -what is the average call duration? -what is the % of calls requiring escalation or call back versus calls resolved on first contact? To simplify it though, the two most important (IMO) will be call volume and your target for ASA (assuming you aren't answering then putting them back on hold, etc). To simplify though, the top 3 are: ASA, Call length and call volume. Regardless of the size of customer base. A good reporting system that combines live metrics and daily/weekly/monthly analysis will help a great deal. Feel free to set up a call if you'd like to talk about this in more detail.RL

What is the average pre-money valuation of a enterprise/SaaS stat-up that is pre-revenue?
There is no valuation until you sell something. An idea or a company is only worth what its sales are. Once you have your initials sales, sales strategy and forecasting length (ie 9 months from first customer lead to close) then you have a formula for valuation. Valuation for start-ups is generally 3.5 x last years sales model should be the growth factor. When you are looking for investors, you will want to have atleast 9-18 months of SALES, not just pipeline and they will be looking at 5x revenue for a 3-5 year payback.TP

What's the best way to sell a SaaS prior to launching?
I was involved with a SaaS product that launched a landing page and made clear that the product was still in development, but that we would give earliest access to people who pre-paid for the product. We also allowed people to choose what they paid, and promised them that payment would stay in-effect for several months. We generated revenue the first day of posting the landing-page publicly and increased revenue month-over-month. However, we discontinued the product as it was simply not big enough of a market for us to justify continued time and energy. But I would encourage you to pursue a similar model in that it's a great way to test and validate the pain others experience for the problem and a great way to ensure you're building the product to satisfy real customers. What are the SaaS B2B expectations when paying annually - annual paid annually or annual paid monthly? Is a discount necessary (i.e. 20%)?
Most Software as a service vendors generally don't book annual deals except in highly specialized cases. Most customers prefer to be able to cancel/change anytime they choose. Also, deals done "offline" end up actually often being more trouble than they are worth to administrate especially for a $2988 ticket. Generally, companies don't view prepaying for SaaS products a year in advance as a "convenience" (to them) so if the debate is internal (not customer driven), I'd set this debate aside until it's requested by the customer.
