MenuPaul Ruderman Founder & CEO, UpdateZen
2X tech startup founder / musician / podcaster / runner / perpetual innovator / husband + dad. Right now, I have just launched my new startup, UpdateZen (www.UpdateZen.com) to BETA. UpdateZen is a new way for executives to stay updated. Your team distills status updates to 250 characters so you see only what's absolutely essential for you to know. In one beautiful interface. UpdateZen includes lightweight task management (featherweight, really) to complement simple status reporting from your people. The net benefit is far greater efficiency and productivity, more time to focus on what you need to focus on, and the comfort of always knowing what's going on across your team's projects.

Inspiring incredible team collaboration, productivity and loyalty - and all three go hand in hand - enabled me to raise the game of my company manifold. Not by milking people, but by bringing them on board with the WHAT of my vision and the WHY of my vision. I was affectionately called the "Execution Machine." I'll take it.Paul Ruderman Greater New York City Area(3)

People will disagree. I'll explain why it's an art form. More importantly, if you don't excel at this, you don't stay in business very long, no matter how brilliant you are.Paul Ruderman Greater New York City Area(3)

positive attitude, focused advice.
Source: Clarity James Woolley Sep 17, 2014Paul is amazing! Super energetic, insightful, and full of ideas. I was looking to interview some of our customers for some new features and he over delivered on being quick to confirm the calls + detailed in his responses. Can't recommend him enough!
Source: Clarity Dan Martell Jan 29, 2014My 15 minute call with Paul was well worth my money. He gave me a clear action step plan to get more things done.
I'll definitely be calling him again with in the next few weeks. Thanks again Paul.
Paul's a fantastic cross-functional manager. He blends strategic thinking with practical tactics so that his team members know what they need to do to be effective. Regardless of how much is on his plate, he's always willing to listen to what's on your mind and his intelligence and direct approach help him, and others, make decisions and just get stuff done. It'd be my pleasure to work for him again!
Source: LinkedIn Diane Garey May 31, 2013Paul is a clear-headed and effective, methodical operations executive who understands how his role helps lead to meaningful results. In the start-up/small company space, Paul is probably the best all-around COO with whom I've worked. He has real capabilities in multiple areas including HR, finance, and more. Paul is professionally selfless: all of his accomplishments are expressed in efficiencies he creates and through the team he builds. Paul's teams tend to be talented, harmonious, and dedicated. He is passionate without drama, hands-on without undue micro management, and in short, the kind of affable, highly competent professional with whom you will be grateful to work every day.
Source: LinkedIn Dan Napolitano May 31, 2013I had the privilege of working with Paul Ruderman for six years while he was serving as VP Operations at LiveProcess, Inc. In this role, Paul not only had direction over daily business operations but also took on the areas of Human Resources, Contracts, Finance, Real Estate and many other functions. He is committed and dedicated to doing what is best for the organization but provides complementary balance to leading and supporting his teams. He has unending drive, a strong commitment to strategic planning and is loyal to his coworkers and friends. I look forward to any future opportunity of working with him again.
Source: LinkedIn Mitch Saruwatari May 31, 2013I worked with Paul for over four years at LiveProcess. I reported directly to Paul during the majority of that time. One of the things that really set LiveProcess apart was the effectiveness of Leadership. Paul was in my opinion one of, if not THE best Senior Leaders at LiveProcess.
A prototypical North-easterner Paul thinks and works at a breakneck speed and is highly productive. Highly intelligent, creative and compassionate Paul neatly bridges the nexus between managing the interest of the shareholders, while effectively maintaining day to day operations, and putting the people who reported to him in the best position to succeed.
Paul took the time to teach me many aspects of the business. I was often called upon to perform tasks outside my job description. It exposed me to areas of the business that I might not otherwise have learned about.
In addition, Paul set very well defined goals for me every year. He identified areas of weakness that we worked on strengthening. He was a very hands on VP who took the time to mentor myself and others, and he lead us to success. Ultimately, that is the hallmark of an effective leader. Did the company and the staff both achieve success under his guidance. The answer to that question is YES!
Paul's friendly demeanor, combined with his intelligence, unquestionable integrity, and ethics, would make him a valuable addition to any organization.I would look forward to the opportunity to work with Paul again in the future, without a doubt.
Source: LinkedIn Tom Christian May 31, 2013Having built a mission-critical hospital communication system for eight years in my first startup (LiveProcess, which is still going strong) prior to my new startup (Updated.io), I would be remiss if I didn't caution you to go into this space. Convincing execs that you'll be around in a year is but one hurdle you will encounter along the way... there are more stakeholders in the buying process within hospitals' mission-critical communication platforms than you can shake a stick at. Committee after committee, IT obstacle after IT obstacle, entrenched legacy systems that are glued to many stakeholders, nurses, doctors, safety officers, security personnel, and on and on and on... each sets up its own roadblock for you to get into the daily workflow of a hospital. Good luck in this space, but it is NOT for the feint of heart!
