Harvey Gardner and I blogged together at Open Salon. I fully recommend Harvey for any writing or business position. He is a conscientious, excellent blogger and provides very useful career advice. I have been encouraged by his career guidance on many occasions. I'm sure he will only go on to do better and better things.

Harvey has written a couple of outstanding sales manuals for my businesses and has assisted me on several occasions with writing technical jargon that people seem to expect when learning about a company. Harvey takes complex ideas or experiences and communicates those thoughts effectively in the written word. He can also train people on your ideas and thoughts. His skills are effective with new or existing sales people. He likes to speak publicly too!

Harvey and I were members of Toastmaster's International of White House TN. Harvey did an excellent job as head of this chapter. He was extremely organized and provided much insight on public speaking.

I have known Harvey for several years and worked with him in an effort to start a Toastmasters Club in White House. Harvey has a varied background and is knowledgeable in many different areas. He was always well prepared for his presentations and delivered them in an organized manner with a side dish of humor. I’m confident that Harvey would do a good job in accomplishing the goals of whoever chooses to contract his services.

Harvey is a great sales and marketing trainer. Having spent more than 12 hours of one on one with him I can say he's an old school meat and potatoes type trainer! Great guy - always on time and he's an expert (how many people do you know that survived in sales for 40+ years) and sticks to his commitments! Will hire him again for future projects as he doesn't just talk the talk he walks the walk! Dean Peterson

Harvey L. Gardner, Sole Practitioner at Harvey L. Gardner answered:

First of all, unless you have an offer in writing, you don't really have an offer. Don't accept or make verbal offers. You asked what should be your next step. The next step is to make a counter-offer in writing. It's not unusual for first offers to be much lower than what you're asking or what you would like to have, or even what you would be willing to accept. Don't be discouraged by this. It's a place to start. Keep talking, if you really want to sell. If you don't really want to sell, make a counter offer within the range you're willing to consider. When negotiating, determine three prices you would be willing to accept: 1. A pie-in-the-sky price you don't seriously think you'll get. 2. A price you think is realistic. and 3. A rock-bottom price that you must have, or you'll walk away. Walking away is the best bargaining chip you have, but don't do it as long as your offers are above your "rock-bottom" price.
