Chief Purpose Officer, On Purpose - a specialised business advisory creating purposeful businesses through employee engagement
I can share my expertise as a successful inventor and product developer and help you create and market your next big product
I create a reason to believe in your business - for your customers, employees and your owners. I peel back the layers and shine a light on the heart of why your business exists and how this is the answer to going from good to great.
Well done for noticing what this is doing to you as many people don't. There is a growing body of neuroscience research indicating that we become less agile mentally and able to think innovatively if we allow the continual distraction of screen feeds to enter our lives. To me its akin to being punched from several boxers at once. I set time in my diary for email twice a day and stick to it, I also set time aside for reading books, articles and those things that will grow my knowledge. As for instant feeds take control of them, ask yourself after looking at each 'has it helped move your business forward? or was it a nice to have piece of info. If the latter get rid of it.
The only time we need instant contact is when we call the police, ambulance etc. Don't mistake the immediacy of the technology for the importance of the message.
I've worked with Mark over the last 6 years at BP. He has been a great support to me, and the Commercial Fuels business in gaining real traction in improving our standing in our communities, and also with our customers. Mark is a true partner to the business, and enables substantial impact in external relationships, and has been involved in many projects with my Mining customers and Indigenous communities. HIs work on the BP RAP was of particular note, not to mention his 10 year legacy in the development of Opal fuel and it's dramatic benefit to reducing petrol sniffing across Australia.
Mark is one of the most extraordinary people I have ever met in business. He is heap full of integrity and the fine human feeling for other beings - which so often can get squashed from the days agenda. The first time I met him he made a (sizeable and rather excellent) cake of Australia to demonstrate the geography to me - the visiting brit. His social programmes are highly creative and thoughtful and he has a steely determination to get it done AND do the right thing in the process. I genuinely believe Mark would add most unusual value to any business he fronts or joins. I hope I get to work with him again in future - it would make everything smarter and everything better.
Mark’s has a great leadership style that is very professional, inclusive and inspirational. Mark is a very engaging and passionate person and is able to make his colleagues, team members and stakeholders feel listened to and valued. He is a driven and hardworking person with a strong commitment to our community and environment. BP’s innovative initiative to introduce OPAL into the NT to reduce petrol sniffing is one of Mark’s achievements. There are not many people in our world who can say that their life’s legacy made a difference to a whole society.
I’ve worked with Mark at BP, on some of the Corporate Responsibility initiatives he has developed. During this time, I’ have found mark to be a dedicated, honest and genuine individual. He is driven for the cause, and strives to succeed in executing complex, but rewarding initiatives.
His passion for good causes is clearly evident, and his drive and ambition filters down the team, where it creates a productive environment to work in. Mark’s passion will be missed at BP.
