I would love to help you with this please feel free to book a call with me and I will collaborate with you to build your network. To fully help you I would need to better understand your goals and the network you need built. Just having connections is not a valuable network. Your network is only as strong as the trust you have built within it.
I would consider my network very strong. I built it over thirty years and there are about two dozen connections I know I can go to and get trusted results if needed. Each of those connections has trusted connections and so forth.
I would focus on value versus volume. Trust is built by keeping your say do equation 1 to 1. With too many connections its impossible to manage and trust wanes. Money flows on trust.
The most valuable thing for me in my industry are the relationships and trust I have built over 30 years. I have helped connections reach their goals and make more money. When I call they pick up the phone and listen.
If you are looking at creating a more passive network I have found that short videos that bring a lot of value to the subject matter and create a great following. Using LinkedIn to connect to you YouTube or TickTock will help reinforce your brand and build credibility.
Great job on recognizing that networking is important. It's the fine details and maximizing that network that I could help you with.
Make it a great day!
David
The most important thing is to build meaningful relationships rather than have a lot of connections. Your 'connection' on LinkedIn may pass you by in real life without recognising you. Meaningful relationships always convert - one day or another. To build meaningful relationships, just show a sincere interest in a person and listen.
If you are looking for the ways to manage your network online, some tips:
- review who you follow on LinkedIn. If you will see the relevant content from relevant people - it will be easier to engage with them by liking, reposting, commenting their posts
- write posts with some useful information (reviews, small researches) and tag companies, people you want to engage with.
the best hack in networking is NOT TO SELL YOUR BUSINESS rather ask another person how you could help him or her and how you can add value to their businesses

How do I find networking opportunities with entrepreneurs and influencers?
What your trying is one approach to finding investors. Here's another that in my experience is far more effective. I'd tap your network, and it's probably actually a lot bigger than you think! Linkedin is the perfect tool for this. Look for people you're connected to, that you trust, and that are suited to helping your business (ideally in your industry, or experienced in fundraising, etc) and that have a good network themselves (ideally they're connected to some investors you're interested in, but not required). Reach out to them, and let them know you're starting a venture, and are looking for their advice, and would love to treat them to a 30 min coffee meeting. People love to hear that others think they're awesome and they love to give advice which makes them feel awesome, and this is someone you know, so chances are they'll accept. Send this request to everyone relevant in your network. At the meeting, tell them about your venture, give them your pitch, hear their comments and heed their feedback, and ask them for 3 people in their network that would be great people to talk to. Get intros to those people, and repeat. If you do this diligently and listen well, your network will expand extremely quickly, and you'll be able to get introduced to literally anyone you want. This is how our founding team at Tachyus acquired our first customer within 1 month of starting, and having no experience or direct connections in our industry. I'm always down to chat in more detail if you're interested. Best of luck!FL

What are some tips to make the physical move to Silicon Valley, to ensure you are able to connect with talent/influencers, and find opportunities?
I moved to SF from Michigan for my startup a few years back, best decision ever. Lots of events, lots of talent and very accessible vc's. Its all quite natural. Just get into the mix. there is literally events all day everyday somewhere in the San Francisco Bay area. Use some of the free ticket services to find good Events. Join an incubator like plug and play tech center. Network! make sure to do the Palo Alto scene as well as the San Francisco scene, very different.JP

Is this idea validation or harmful, good practice or a off on the wrong foot?
Could it be called Sketchy? Yes. Does everyone do it in every industry to get insider info on competitor pricing and presentation.... Pretty much. With that said if any do present as people you would like to work with, then for sure let them know what you were doing, that they made the cut, and that you would be honored to work with them.NP

What is the difference between your team and a network and how should they be treated differently?
In my companies I define a team as my in house leadership (I refer to them in all group communications as the LT or Leadership Team). My Personal Network is the collection of contacts and connections that I use to develop my business (Either through mentorship, advice or social/business connections) Our Company Network is our collective group of contacts and connections shared by the Leadership Team.JB
