MenuWhich is more important for business, PR or marketing?
If your business is luxury wellness travel and you want to increase brand awareness and bookings.

PR will help with sales, but also improve conversion.
Marketing should (if done right) increase sales regardless of PR (if landing pages are done right).

Personally, I am not an either or type of guy. The answer is both. The main difference? Marketing is focused on promoting and selling a specific products or services, and PR is focused on maintaining a positive reputation for a company as a whole. They go hand in hand. One really isn't better than the other, You need a solid plan that incorporates both. I help people with this every day. Good Luck, I'm here if you need me.
I've built brands around a product, a service and around a personality.
This day in age, marketing is PR and PR is marketing in a sense. Brands and personalities bleed together. For the good or for the bad. I believe both are necessary to achieve a high level of excellence. But you can be successful pursuing either or. Choose your passion or the passion of the person you are hiring.
I'm available to anyone seeking advice or direction with marketing.
I would choose marketing. You can get great PR and not generate sales. Marketing is directly connected to sales and revenue growth. PR is more "earned media" and how your story connects to a broader cause. Both areas should be included in your business strategy. I find that if marketing is done right you will generate PR. Also depending on industry many of the PR platforms are paid, for example in crypto and blockchain many press releases are paid placements. Even mentions in top business media can be purchased and therefore part of a marketing budget. Digital has changed the game. Think bloggers, podcasts, YouTube channels, IG, FB and the like. Schedule a call with me if you want specific guidance and tips in any of these areas. Good luck to you!
Your focus should always start with your brand. This is especially true when speaking about anything in the luxury realm, as the increased cost must be matched by a similar level of perceived worth or value.
The flow looks something like this:
BRAND > PR > MARKETING
These are not linear in the sense that once you "complete" a step then you are done with it. It is more of a cycle.
I'd love the opportunity to do some research on your company and needs and hop on a call if you're still looking for help. https://clarity.fm/jlcortez

Definitely start with marketing. Use your social media or wherever you are interacting with potential clients to test your message and positioning.
It is important to know what your market responds to before you start looking for PR.
Once your message is clear, you know who your client is and what they want from you, begin scaling with local media.
You would be surprised to know that most local media outlets- print, TV, radio, digital- are in need of content. Most of them have contact information on their website.
Reach out and explain how you can add value and content to their show.
Do not take no response as a "no". Most of them are very busy, so just keep following up nicely.
Once you have had success there, look into PR, or have an assistant or intern take over the outreach and follow up!
Please reach out if you have any other questions:)
Both. You need a firm strategy around goals with multiple channels and pathways to customers considered, tested, tactically operated, monitored, and improved over time in order to remain competitive. The better you do this process, the better your brand will stand out and compete against many others in the travel space. At some point, you'll want to pick out the gems that are working in both PR and Marketing, push resources into them, and thus maximize your brand strengths. Give me a call if you want to break through the noise.

What are some marketing strategies we can use to reach new customers?
Start with creating your USP (aka Message). This message will be the statement that sums up the reasons for doing business with you from THEIR perspective based on what THEY want (versus why YOU think they should do business with you). It may feature a unique ability your company can provide - some feature or benefit or experience that they either can't get anywhere else or that you do better than anyone else - and I'd strongly suggest it NOT be based on your low pricing. To do this - get very clear about what pain (or problem) your business gets rid of (or solves) and what promise you make to your market. For example: When you say "excellent quality" and "affordable"... what exactly does that mean and why should your market care? -How will they KNOW it's "excellent" (according to them)? And do they want excellent? Maybe they want fast... -What does "quality" mean and how will they know? If you fix my cellphone and it works... How is that qualitatively different from anyone else fixing my phone? Isn't fixed the same as fixed? -What is "affordable"? And affordable for whom? Lastly - When you say "specialize" - and then say cellphone and tablet repair... Does that mean you specialize in ALL cellphones and tablets? Because when you say "cellphones and tablets" it sounds more like you generalize in a type of handheld electronic product. A specialist is an expert in a small area of products or services. Think deep and narrow. For example - You can specialize in repairing a certain brand - Such as "we specialize exclusively in the repair of Samsung cellphones and tablets"... Or you can specialize in the repair of devices running on the Android platform.... (you get the idea) Once you find your USP - use it in all of your inbound and outbound marketing platforms. I wish you the best of luck in your marketing efforts! -DavidDB

What should I do to have my first client on Clarity.fm?
I started on Clarity just by answering questions last summer. I used to love Quora but really disagreed with a number of changes they made and so when Clarity launched answers, I started answering questions. I'm incredibly busy but let's face it: we all have extra time. We spend it looking at our phones, on Facebook, socializing with friends, whatever way each person does it, we all spend time on non mission critical stuff. Because I genuinely enjoy helping others, I treated Quora as a way of relaxing the same way others would read news sites or blogs. And so I switched all that time to Clarity by answering questions. I don't recall the exact specifics but by providing real answers (not just, "call me, I can help you), I had my first call request within about a month of my first answer. And I got a nice review. And some more questions answered, and a couple more calls, and a couple more reviews. And from that point, the call volume increased. Simultaneously, I started referring all "can I pick your brain" requests on LinkedIn and email to my Clarity account. And so some calls initiated that way. More reviews. Now, a year later, I have done over 200 calls, with the majority of it inbound from Clarity. Take it from me, if you make the time, and provide genuine help to people, you will get rewarded for it. But like anything in life, if you're not willing to invest the time and resources, you're unlikely to see any return.TW

Specifically, what are some good places (like TechCrunch etc.) to publicize a startup?
It also greatly depends on "why" do you want the publicity. There are tools to become visible for investors, there are networks to attract board members etc At last but not least - there are networks and tools to get partners and buyers/licensees. Happy to discuss.EB

How can I effectively market my online business to baby boomers / senior citizens?
You have a lot of options to market to boomers and seniors. That age group is facebook's fastest growing segment. Build ads that target that age group and think about having a facebook page to supplement your efforts there. Older people search just like the rest of us as well, so build an adwords campaign around keywords that might align with your product. Contact me if you'd like to chat about some options or need some help building your campaigns. Good luck!JR
