Our startup is looking for second-act career seekers to be our local representatives. As it is commission-based, we are looking for people able to invest a little bit of time.

Paid advertising on social media, particularly Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn can be highly targeted and so I am sure you could find relevant keywords and topics to target using those platforms.
Depending on where you are in the world, look for events on meetup.com and/or Yelp. There are almost certainly going to be groups and events related to your target demographic. Think book clubs, wine clubs, sports, theatre etc.
Digital signposting - e.g. screens at medical establishments, local public transport, gas stations.
Lastly, perhaps advertise at night-schools or venues that host a lot of evening classes.
If I were you, I'd try a mixture of Facebook (based on demographic features) and AdWords (based on search intent).
Additionally, you might accomplish a fair bit simply by networking with people in the right LinkedIn groups. If you can identify blogs with the right audience, then publishing an interview or advertorial might help raise awareness.

At the PE firm I worked for, we often were looking for advisors to help on due diligence -- typically retired executives who could spend a few hours a week helping us on due diligence.
Many of retirees we worked with had LinkedIn profiles, and we were able to communicate with them over LinkedIn messages and then exchange contact information.

Leverage alumni networks and professional associations. Many retirees stay connected to the professional organizations or alumni networks of their industry or alma mater. Reach out to these groups through newsletters, email lists, events, etc.
Connect at local community centers and activity clubs. Retirees often spend time at senior centers, golf and country clubs, recreational centers, etc. See if you can put up notices about opportunities at these locations.
Advertise on part-time job boards and portals. Sites like RetiredBrains, SeniorJobBank, Seniors4Hire, etc. specialize in flexible opportunities for mature workers.
Attend retirement seminars and financial planning events. There are many local and community seminars about transitioning to retirement that attract retirees.
Partner with retirement coaches and planners. Retirees often work with retirement coaches and financial planners; consider outreach to these professionals to access their networks.
Run ads in print and digital publications focused on retirees. There are many magazines, newsletters and websites catering to retiree interests that you can advertise in.

I'd take a look at the large, established companies in the technology space in which you want to operate. Somewhere at one of those companies is an astute, experienced person who might be ready to get out of the big company environment if you come along with the right idea. E.g. Cisco if you are doing networking, Salesforce if you are doing marketing automation, Intuit if you are doing financial apps. The trick is finding one who not only has the technical expertise and wants to get out, but is well suited financially and psychologically for a startup. I learned the hard way that co-founders who are not in the same boat financially can make for an unhappy parting.KE

What can I do now to stand out?
You need to show them that you can solve their problems. The #1 mistake made by most applicants is that they keep talking about themselves: "here are my skills, here's what I've done, etc..." Instead of talking about yourself, talk about them: "You need someone who can jump right in; someone who can start working without making mistakes. You also don't have a lot of time for training. I can get started right away." This is going to require some research. Follow the founders / managers on Twitter. Read their blog posts. Scan their error logs (if they're public). Find out where you're *needed* and highlight that. Generally it's best to do this during the application process. If you've already sent in a cover letter and resume, it doesn't hurt to send a follow-up email that says: "I've been doing some research, and I think I've found some places I could be helpful."JJ

The first place to start is to get out there and meet people especially at local business association group meetings. Any place where people are networking is a great way to find someone for the team. Use the resources you already have like checking your college or university alumni association. Of course you could put out an ad on one of the online job boards, but your best opportunity will be to find someone who knows someone so that you can get a strong recommendation. There's always the obvious resources such as LinkedIn, but you'd be better off networking with people that you know to find the exact person that you need.SB
