One of the first things I noticed about Usman is that he is not afraid to get outside of his comfort zone. As a technical person myself, I am continuously surprised as to how much Usman knows about technology compared to other non-technical people. His cross-functional attitude is definitely one of his strongest traits. Usman also does a very good job of modifying his approach from problem to problem. There is no "One-Size-Fits-All" solution in the world of business and Usman recognizes that. He is an idea-machine, which eventually results in a creative atmosphere that everybody benefits from. I think Usman's expertise lies in business strategy, process improvement, and market research. And it's not just that he does a really good job in all of these areas. What makes him different is that he approaches all of these different areas with a unique sense of tenacity. That's what I think really sets Usman apart from the rest.
Usman proved himself to be an attentive, thorough and committed Security Issue Analyst for our Security team. He was enthusiastic about our work, and about the opportunity to provide a youthful voice on the key security issues facing the US and the world. His intellect and dedication were an invaluable asset to the team. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
I was in charge of working with Usman at the Institute of Strategic Studies, which he joined as an intern. He worked for the US Aid Project at the institute, assisting the research team. His contribution was admirable, as were his working habits and ability to work in a team. Usman brought with him fresh ways of thinking, and also took the initiative to help with the online content of the institute, demonstrating his writing and research skills in the process. He is highly talented, and I have no doubt he will be an asset to any organization that he joins.
