Swier Miedema Owner at Strength Management Consulting

Eindhoven Area, Netherlands
I am an experienced consultant and coach for businesses and persons. With over 28 years of experience, I am astonished why companies still are aiming for growth (which is a result, not a goal) and not focusing on the things they feel a passion for, can be the best in the world in ànd get properly paid for it. What's more: they don't seem to realize that added value comes from engaged employees, who are willing to run the extra mile for the sake of the company. I have developed a management model that helps you get the best out of your employees, ànd the best out of your company, And I would love to share it with you. I am also an experienced coach, and can help you remove your restricting behavior for success generally in a…

I have experienced Swier as a excellent coach. He is one of the few people who can give someone a personal insight in oneself. Due to his personal insights he gave me strength in a difficult period and teached me how to explore and use my strengths. He can read between the lines en really let you see the issue that lies beneath the surface. With his way of asking questions you get confronted with yourself. I have achieved a lot since Swier was my coach. I still remember his words in difficult times and that ensures me to reach my goals.
My favorite quote is: "Be the change you wish to see in the world". Well I can say: "Thank you Swier for being my change and my strength to see the world.

For the past six months Swier has been my coach. His coaching programme is very appealing to me because of his focus on my values and talents in relation to my goals. I'm very pleased with the results so far (I'm half way the programme).
What I most value during our sessions is the way he relates to me: he's able to tune into my mood and feelings. As a result of that he asks the right questions, he's sharp in his remarks and he gives me the desire to get the best out of me. During our coaching sessions Swier provides a safe environment and is able to push me further without me noticing he’s doing that (I realize it after the session). Furthermore he’s very engaged, fun to be around, understanding and he truly handles in your best interest. I’m looking forward to our following sessions.

Swier has in a short term proven to be a very good coach. Within half a year Swier coached me and showed me my strenghts, made me think about my values and their correlations. He showed me what it can mean to me in work and life. Every session we discussed progress, hard lines and he suggested actions to me and gave me advice. Very valuable! Thanks Swier!

Swier is a very supportive and committed coach. Because of his genuine interest and precise questions he was able to make me become more aware of and focus on my strengths. Swier has a broad set of skills and is able to switch in a very natural way from a more philosophical to pragmatic style. With that style he made me think and work hard, but with the desired results.

I have known Swier for most of my working career and he has become a good friend. During our early years in IT we had lots of very fruitful discussions and challenges that he handled very well. I enjoy his company as a peer, always being able to discuss the challenges in life.

Although Swier and I only worked together for 2 years, he always showed a committed and positive attitude to improving the company, and came up with several new ideas on how to create opportunities for the company which he pursued with vigor.

Swier Miedema, Owner at Strength Management Consulting answered:

Hi,
This is a courageous and smart move to put your question forward.
If you want to get a success out of this team, make sure that you agree with them on company core values, core objective, and derived team core values and team core objective. Further agree with them on what your team’s added value would be for the company. Then discuss with them who will be doing what in creating that added value, and agree with them (the group) on how to reach your goals or objectives. This way, it will be a shared responsibility, where they will support each other to reach best results.

Use the “Now, discover your strengths!” test from the Gallup Organization to find out what each individuals’ talents are, and decide with them on who will be doing what, based on their talents (or themes as Gallup calls them). This will allow them to see that you are genuinely trying to make the best of the situation, and have their well being and successfulness as a prerogative for the teams’ success. Look at them and coach them to perform as well as they can in their individual roles. Leave ample room for personal creativeness, but watch out for them “not breaking the bank."

Use the leverage you will “demand” from your superior to build this team (based on his assumption that this is a weak team) to create a period of build up to enhance the quality of this team. Demand a period for a year to build this up. After all, he is putting the problem in your lap! (Why didn’t he solve it himself?) Measure consistently on performance improvement, and use that to sustain leverage.

You might be astonished as to what the team might come up with!

Kind regards,
Swier Miedema.
