MenuHello, and great question. I feel the most important question you need to ask is "why". Why do we want to make films, and then, what stories do we want to tell? These two questions are critical, because before a film can be made, and then, potentially, become profitable, the foundation must be strong.
I have been working in the film and television industry for over 25 years, and I can tell you from experience that the projects that had the most heart, the most compelling story were the ones that meant the most, and, quite often, made not only financial gains, but had social impact.
Making sure you understand the technical aspects of the business, writing a proper script, etc, is critical. Have you taken courses in filmmaking? You could also look to crowdfund a short film based on your script to generate publicity and attention. The big thing is to start taking action: from writing scripts to finding ways to produce shorts, trailers, etc.
