MenuWhere can I find the best commercial or industrial Internet of Things companies for application development?
We are looking for internet of things application development companies to help us develop hardware & software solutions. Ideally we would like development houses that can do both hardware and software and with experience in industrial settings.
Answers
It really depends on what type of industrial application you are interested in since industrial is a very fragmented market with multiple verticals. Most big SI companies like TCS, Accenture, infosys, Wipro, have IoT practices these days and do both application and hardware development.
Hello , I would suggest to be more specific as Application Development in IoT is highly specific for every industry and even use cases in the same industry. So the basic questions you need to ask first - who will be using the Application? what are the devices you are making IoT ? What is the data volume per day per session per month ? What is the uplink/downlink speed per device? How many devices should be rolled out? Is that data being collected in the Cloud or elsewhere? How secure the Application/Data should be ? What are the geographies - Global, USA, EMEA, APAC etc? Based on the profile you can find the right Architecture and then you can get a reasonable Application development supplier. I can discuss on the phone in more detail.
Hi, as this question was asked 4 years ago, with nary an answer, I assume you've found your own way:)
What did you discover?
I'd love to hear about where you ended up - the space has changed a lot over the last 4 years and, in that time, I have gathered together a huge amount of information on the various network options, suppliers (hardware and software), systems, solution providers and more.
We are launching our own IoT system integration service her in Malaysia and designing our own products to suit the market needs as well.
Love to chat:)

Any suggestions on raising funds on kickstarter (or other crowdfunding) for a business innovation model as opposed to a product innovation model?
Okay so I am going to lead by saying I have a bias regarding crowdfunding. Now on to my answer: Kickstarter is for products not companies. If you create a good product and do a kickstarter campaign you will be able to use the funds raised for the product to build your company. https://www.crowdfunder.com/ however is for businesses so it might be a better bet for you. https://www.prosper.com/ would be my recommendation because it is crowdfunded loans. This is real money without strings attached other than the fact that it is a loan. They cap out at 35,000 so if you need serious capital then you should look at a bank or an investor. In general (with prosper being the only exception) I hate crowdfunding sites. There are a couple of reasons but this article sums it all up pretty well: http://www.zdnet.com/article/despite-its-popularity-i-hate-kickstarter/ Prosper is very different in that you are getting a loan, a non predatory interest rate (6.68% to 35.97% APR depending of course on your credit score, the amount you are asking etc.) and you get the cash in days that you can use without lifting your skirt so to speak. To disclose here, I am a member of Prosper and help fund loans. However the only reason why I do is because I believe in their company more than any other crowdfunded site out there. Unlike sites like Kickstarter, the site is overseen by the SEC, has accredited investors, people that actually put there money into the site to fund loans have to deal with the IRS and the SEC so you as one getting a loan are protected like crazy. I would love to discuss more about your business and help guide you through the process if you are interested. Give me a call.JM

I have an Idea in (IoT) , what is the approach that I should use to make sure that this idea is new and feasible?
Is it new? To find out if the idea is really new, be thorough in your online search. Search base on descriptions of the the problems it solves, how it is used and the benefits. You should also search Google Patents or the USPTO.gov site to look for existing patents in this area. Does it need to be new? "New" is nice, but in a rapidly developing market space like most IoT applications, there may be a lot of room for "better" or "improved." If there is competition, find out how well it is being adapted and used; you may still uncover new opportunities. Is it feasible? This is clearly a loaded question. To determine market feasibility, you will have to answer a number of individual questions, including: - Will the product address a real problem and deliver tangible benefits - Can you make a product that performs the way you want it to? - Will anyone want it if you do? Why? - How many of them are there and who are they? - Can you market it at a price they will be willing to pay for it? - How can you reach and sell to them? - Do they know they want this, or will you need to educate them? - What obstacles will you need to overcome to make a sale? - What will compete with this purchase, both directly (other products) and indirectly (other ways to solve the problem)? I hope that helps. I have been doing a lot of work in the IOT space and would be happy to walk you through a process to help you answer your question.JM

What is the best way for me to reach out to fashion brands and designers to tell them about our fashion IOT maker kits?
I've had a bunch of my own 'maker' / hacker projects publicized. Here's what I suggest: 1) Write up a project and suggest it to Make Magazine (http://makezine.com/) 2) Tell hobby electronic supply shops about it to see if they want to stock it (e.g. https://www.sparkfun.com/ https://www.adafruit.com/) 3) Subscribe to HARO to be able to get your stuff written about in the press 4) Tweet links to the project your wrote up to relevant designers or instructors at fashion institutes (e.g. google the professors at FIT, etc.) 5) Other ideas If you want to discuss these or other ideas with more specific tailoring to your specific kit let me know. best, LeeLV
