Is there any plugin available to measure monthly active registered users?

Instead of spending more time and money on other products, if you have Google Analytics running on your site already. All you need to oo is add a custom variable say for example logginein: True/False and then you can easily filter for active users.

How do I start a Web-Analysis?

Expertise in both digital marketing and web analytics. I have experiences working with multinational brands on their web report analysis and marketing effectiveness.

Goes without say GA is the best free tool available.

Here's the general process I recommend:
1. Understand business goals and objectives - who is this report prepped for and for what purpose? what kind of website is it?

2. GA Audit & Setup - most people ignore this step but its actually very critical because if you find out the site is not tracking critical information, any data you pull from it will be skewed and unreliable.

3. Determine KPI which addresses your objectives. - different objectives will result in the need for various KPI. But in general, conversions and transactions are always on the list.

4. Digging into data to find insights. - using segmentation & filters to gather specific data which can provide very specific insights. (too often people fall into the trap of high level KPI which offer little insight or actionable next steps)

If you were to build a freelance marketplace for data scientists and data analysts, what kind of companies and projects would you target?

So typically it would depend on the complexity of the project and how easily accessible is the data to determine the likelihood and possibility of outsourced data analysis.

For example, it is much easier to look at a ecommerce website and provide analysis than to go into a retail shop that has both online and offline data sources that needs to be analyzed.

As an web analyst, I tend to get projects to help identify opportunities and support marketing activities. There is limitations due to the amount of data available and it would usually need to be looked at on a case to case basis.

Big data can include data multiple departments (sales, accounting, operations) to something as simple as web analytics. For complex projects, you face issues such as security, accessibility, longer timelines and iterations which would probably mean an inhouse resources would make more sense.

What are some impacts of Non-Transparency?

My background is a digital marketer and web analyst helping businesses strategize and optimize conversions and campaigns.

As Tom has indicated, lack of trust will be the #1 problem whether it is non-transparency towards customers or employees.

From the customer perspective. There is a growing trend in research before buying. Often a customer will want to gather as much information as they can before reaching out to the business for that next step conversation. By providing transparency and information, you build that trust and credibility as a subject matter expert which becomes the basis for business relationships and transactions.

Comparing company A and company B,, A provides tons of information about their services while B simply lists a service offerings on their page. A has moved to build more rapport with the customer and is much more likely in securing that business.

In looking at the answers about online marketing I've been getting here, the "experts'" blogs have little readership. Is their advice still good?

If the advice seems sound then its worth taking into consideration for your own strategies.

Too often, people are busy with the day to day and often neglect the building of their own brand. (including myself) There's no real excuse except the fact I haven't put it as priority over other work. Its a choice you make because it COULD potentially cost you some business but for many people, if they have enough work on their hands, building their own brand may be pushed down to the bottom of the to do lists.

Before deciding on which marketing channels to pursue. You should think about the your target objectives, what resources you have available to you (money or people) and which combination of marketing strategies can achieve your goal.

Your strategies will depend on user behaviours, resources available, and product positioning. Whether to achieve your goal virally via social, or deliver value through content, will depend on your product/service.

Should a digital marketing freelancer with a growing business ($300K) leave their own business to join an ad agency for 20% stake and $100K salary?

Keep in mind if money is what you are comparing, the financial health and opportunity at the ad agency needs to be examined closely as well. 20% of a small agency vs 20% of a large agency is very different.

You also need to consider how much control you like to have with your work, at 20%, you may not have the final say anymore. Consider whether or not your potential future partners have the same value and see if its a fit.

Ask yourself where do you want o be and what kind of future do you see yourself in? Like all good decisions, start with your objectives!

How important is coding knowledge in starting a SAAS business? Should I start by learning code or just get started on the idea? Book suggestions?

I went through a similar situation, I started building a SaaS product and I only know limited codes.

My advice is focus on what you're good at. Unless what you're trying to build is simple, your time is better off spent building the other aspects than trying to learn to code. I started trying to code myself. But I finally realized that the amount of time it takes for me to write code, I could have made more money, hired a programmer and still have leftover cash and time. Unless you are looking for the learning process then its different.

Even though, I'd advise against writing code, do consider understanding how your programming logic works and what are the milestones. Otherwise you'll have difficulties communicating with developer or managing the process.

How best to spend $1k month marketing budget for small LA based legal firm?

Here are the things you need to consider:
- how is your current website performance (traffic, conversion, funnel, landing page etc)
- how is current campaigns performing? (CPA)
- evaluate the competitive space (determine what are available opprtunities that can be accomplished within your budget)
- plan, execute, and evaluate marketing campaigns

Your best bet is to understand what the space is like before committing to a particular channel. Do some testing and make sure you're tracking.

What are the top 5 ways to gain traction, early stage with a bootstrapped Startup?

Being able to set yourself apart from the rest of the category is critical to your success. As a bootstrapped startup, niche targets will likely be an ideal choice since cash and resources are limited.

In addition to Tom's response. Connecting with influential blogs and those that have a following will help significantly in getting user traction based on their recommendations.

Creating videos and tutorials to solve problems or poitn out pain points that you product can address may be a low cost marketing effort.

Don't forget to test and analyze your signup data in understanding what is the trigger for your users to signup and look for ways to exploit it.

Depending on how robust your product is, you can look to establishing strategic partnerships to leverage other people's networks and or brands.
