I have met many hundreds of people over the years, but few are as honest, smart, hard-working, diligent, ethical and fun as Greg Stern. I know that he will accomplish whatever he sets his mind to, and will lead his team to success.
Greg is both inspired and very analytical--a great combination of attributes for a leader of product development. He digs deeply and thoughtfully into understanding customer behavior. He pays close attention to competitor moves, and he adroitly prioritizes the use of resources, guided by his well-developed sense of the key leverage points that can drive a business to higher levels of revenue and profit growth.
He is a terrific leader for any company that is serious about establishing a metrics-driven culture. Trust me. He's good.
Greg brings the science and art of leading. He possesses great instinct and ability to communicate the vision while getting his "hands dirty" on execution. I met Greg early 2009 when Allbusiness was going to be part of my overall responsibility; he has continously brought internet thought leadership and expertise to a 170 year old company while delivering on key strategic imperatives on replatforming.
He not only delivers on his commitments, but he delivers with excellence by not settling with "good enough" outcomes. He has inherent intellectual curiosity so pushes the status quo diplomatically and he constantly challenges himself to be the best value possible.
He is great in presentation forums, not just because he is a trained communicator, but because he knows his subject and has the natural passion for his subject.
I was always able to count on Greg for big initiatives since he will mobilize the organization to get them done right and have fun while getting the outcomes delivered.
Greg led an internal start up team at Macromedia that got our developer relations and subscription business efforts off the ground. I watched first hand as Greg assembled his team, motivated them to move mountains, and charged hard at an ambitious set of goals. Greg demonstrated a wide ranging leadership and management skillset that would be applicable to any business. His passion, energy and commitment inspired his team, but he was not shy about rolling up his sleeves and digging in. From my perspective, Greg has everything required to be a great entrepreneurial leader, bolstered by deep understanding of how to build a business on the web. If I had the chance to hire Greg again, I'd do it in a second.
Greg worked on the Macromedia Flash Platform team as a key leader and driver of the rollout of second generation Flash Video technology. Greg has a fine mind for strategy and a great gut instincts on what developers and creative professional care about. I wish we could have worked together more, and would welcome the chance to work together again some day.
I have had the privilege to work with Greg three times over the past ten years at DevX, Primedia and AllBusiness. It will be four or five times before we are through I have anything to say about it. Greg is a true talent. He has a sharp analytical mind coupled with great judgment and creativity. He has the ability to discern what consumers need versus what they merely ask for. He is great at establishing corporate priorities. Most importantly. Greg is someone that I absolutely trust and completely rely upon. It's hard to compress ten years into just a few words. Greg is the provebial "franchise player" that can be the backbone of a business.
