I primarily teach investments, asset management and corporate finance courses. I am an unbiased educator – I don’t sell financial products. My only objective is to help you gain the skills needed to make more constructive financial decisions for yourself and for your family. I can help reduce your reliance on financial advisors or to have a more open and efficient relationship with an advisor, if you choose to use one. I’ve written four books on investing and financial literacy. I am a member of the Investment Committee at Venture Capital fund Chestnut Street Ventures and separately an active stock market and real estate investor.
During my decade-long corporate career I held senior strategy and operations roles at some of the world's leading risk management firms, with managerial responsibilities in New York, San Francisco, Toronto, London, Singapore, and Sydney. My risk management expertise assisted global financial institutions in management of over a trillion dollars in assets.
I’ve lectured extensively in academic, government, and corporate settings on the subjects of risk management and financial literacy. I was formerly a contributor on Forbes.com and have been quoted in various media, including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Reuters, USA Today, The Baltimore Sun, TheStreet.com, American Public Media, Bankrate.com, Washingtonian, Investopedia.com, InvestmentNews.com, Consumers Digest, US News & World Report, Morningstar.com, Progressive Dentist Magazine, the Journal of Medical Practice Management, Cureus, and The Journal of Risk Management in Financial Institutions.
I hold Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as an engineering degree (B.Eng.) and two economics degrees (B.A. summa cum laude, M.A.) from Canada’s McMaster University.
Fun facts: I planted over 100,000 trees in Canadian reforestation efforts; Spent a summer as a crocodile farmer in Israel; Two-sport varsity athlete (wrestling, rugby); Tae Kwon Do blackbelt. I enjoy kayaking, cycling, jogging and SCUBA.
I am a very informal and accessible person. Please reach out to me with any questions.
