May I apply the term "lean" if I adapt lean startup concepts & apply them outside entrepreneurship w/o infringing on any legal protections of "lean"?

Everyone who has answered is correct so far. The term and principles of "Lean" have existed for a long time. You can also check with the Lean Enterprise Institute (http://www.lean.org/). The term was coined in the late 80's by MIT prof Jim Womack to describe Toyota's process (http://www.lean.org/WhatsLean/)

In recent months, Tina has acted as my project manager for a government content management system. Communication can often be a problem on projects, but with Tina's technical background and ability to communicate well with others that problem simply did not exist. As with most projects, it is inevitable that a problem will occur, and Tina handled the situations, both good and bad, in a professional manner. Tina's presence on the this project allowed the developers to do what they were hired to do and I look forward to working with Tina on future projects.
