MenuI’m a new GS11 step7 &offered a job at GS12 step3. Can I negotiate for a higher step? My HR rep says no bc I’m being promoted from GS 11 vs civilian.
I have 10 years of military experience in this job, recently switched from active duty to reserve and I want to get paid close to what I was paid in the military which is comparable to my leadership experience.

Hi! It's always worth trying to negotiate for a higher step when offered a new position. However, whether or not you can negotiate a higher step in your case may depend on the specific policies and regulations of your agency.
In general, the federal government has regulations in place that govern how promotions and step increases are determined. These regulations are meant to ensure fairness and consistency across the government.
That being said, there may be some flexibility in terms of negotiating a higher step if you can demonstrate that you have unique qualifications or experience that are particularly relevant to the position. In your case, your military experience and leadership skills may be valuable assets that could help you make a case for a higher step.
It's important to approach the negotiation process professionally and respectfully. You can make a case for why you believe you should be offered a higher step, but be prepared to provide evidence to support your argument. Ultimately, the decision about whether to offer a higher step will be up to your agency, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

What is the best way to get the word out for a new website/app?
The easiest way to promote on a shoestring budget is guest posts. Write about the problem your app solves on sites where your target customers will read them. Make sure you've got a strong marketing funnel for the people who click through your articles — if you're not capturing leads properly (and converting them) all your marketing efforts are wasted. I've worked with a lot of new businesses and helped them bootstrap to success using this approach. It works as long as you stay consistent and *truly* help your reader in the articles (trust is huge). I'd be happy to review your strategy and help you adjust it for maximum exposure (and potentially adjusting your inbound funnels). Let me know if you'd like to set up a time. Good luck!JL

Increase downloads for free app on App Store
You need to consider good, old fashion SEO. Do some basic keyword research to understand how people might be searching for your app - or what it offers - and adjust or develop web content targeted for that search. If you're able to get rankings for these searches, you'll begin to see the increases and I would even recommend setting up a direct link to the store with analytics tracking to see how many leads that you're sending. Also, it's not free, but advertising is something you should also consider. Apple launched a simple platform - http://advertising.apple.com/tools/iad-workbench/ - a few months back and there are several other app networks that you can use. Best, ClarkCC

How can you verify the income figures of professionals in your industry?
You can't verify anything, unless they give you their tax returns. You can do revenue share deals, where gurus are paid a percentage of profits they generate. Tip: True Gurus (upper 'G', rather than lower 'g') are busy generating cash. You'll rarely meet them + hardly anyone knows them. To meet real Gurus, traffic places like Meetup Groups with very tight topics, which relate to what you're trying to accomplish. When you meet a real Guru, likely you'll know it by the way they talk about their area of expertise... which you'll likely have to tease out of them. Anyone making massive cash... tends to keep their techniques to themselves.DF
