MenuHow to launch a kitchen appliances brand online and become the biggest thing in the industry?
Hello, I currently am selling blenders online. My main market is USA. I have my manufacturing in China with an amazing product design and technology team and a line of technologically improved kitchen appliances under production. Is it even possible to challenge some of the biggest brands such as kitchenaid in the industry while operating only online? If so, then how do i go about it?

1. Organic traffic through great content.
2. Classic (but targeted) paid online marketing - Facebook, Google etc - depending on your target market (this method will be tough/expensive because you're competing against the bigger players who have huge budgets - so it's less advised)
3. Endorsements from social influencers - seeing how you're a new brand, this would be your best option - to get as many social influencers to promote your product. Make sure that their followers are your correct target market. Another advantage of this method is that you can offer them your products as payment which might save you some money.
4. Advertising stunt - try think of an 'out of the box' stunt that you can do that will catch media attention - nothing better than free advertising. You have to be creative though.

As Assaf mentioned, most of the magic is going to be in the marketing. Certain options like influencers are really only possible if you have a great product(which you think you do).
The other important thing to remember is most products are not a "one type fits all". I personally have both a Vitamix and a SharkNinja and use them for different things(of course I wish only one was needed). And for those who only have one there is not a clear winner as people of different requirements in regards to price, capabilities, and believe it or not looks.
Direct to consumer selling is much easier today than in the past especially if you are willing to sell on Amazon. Since you have the additional products you will want to make sure you engage your customer to have high repeat buyer conversion. This is generally done through both great product but equally or more important - great service!
Also if you anticipate your product being the next big thing in the industry why not get placement in retailers like Costco where customers will expect them to be? Happy to help further strategize on all the possibilities.
I recommend you to sell via Amazon. The biggest audience lots of sales even in these times and easy start. If you are interesting I can tell you about it. I have 2,5 years experience in US Amazon sales.
Cheers:)
As you probably know, what you want to do is going to be tough. To answer your question fully would need a book, however for the purpose of Clarity and your post, if you don't know them already, then here are a few tips.
1. Know, define and understand your audience well, not just their demographics but their behaviour, attitudes, likes, dislikes and what makes them tick. In your case to become the brand of choice in your sector, you need to change their behaviour and for that you really need to know who they are and as much about them as possible.
.
2. Be very clear about your brand and create something called a brand positioning statement. This is a single paragraph defining who your brand is for, what needs it serves and what makes you different. Every major brand in the world has one and I'd be happy to help you develop one as it's tougher than it seems.
3. Research your market, this means both quantitive and qualitative research ie facts and opinions, but also the environment you're trading in. Identify your competitors, research how they position themselves, and how you will fit into the market.
4. Customer centricity. Loads to say here, but you should be customer centric in everything you do. Love it or loathe it, that is the core reason that Amazon is as successful as it is. So much so that Jeff Bezos calls Amazon 'customer obsessive'.
5. Set clear time driven objectives, Again if you want help on these, I'd be more than happy to help you.
6. Then you need a strategy. This means planning how you're going to launch your brand and build your market share. It also considers the distribution of your products and what channels you're going to use to market them (Omnichannel Marketing) and your strategy has to be as good as it can be.
7. Then Tactics; Tactics goes into more detail about your planned growth and is essentially what needs to be done. So logistics and marketing, processes and more. I'd recommend considering great SEO, Adwords, social media both organic and paid, Email, content, video and more. You'd need a robust and well planned Omnichannel campaign for this.
8. Measurement; everything you do should be measured and monitored and you'll need daily reports. This is so that you know what's working and what isn't. By knowing these, you can then improve what you're doing continuously.
I could share with you how I've helped many start-ups become multi-million dollar businesses but then that'd be another book needed. if you would like some help on any of this though, you know what to do :)
Stay well and stay safe.

How much equity should I give an engineer who I'm asking to join my company as a co-founder? (He'll be receiving a salary, too, and I'm self-funding)
You will find a lot of different views on equity split. I haven't found a silver bullet. My preference/experience is for: 1. Unequal shares because one person needs to be the ultimate decision maker (even if it's 1% difference). I have found that I have never had to use that card because we are always rational about this (and I think us being rational is driven because we don't want a person to always pull that card cause it's a shitty card to pull) 2. When it comes to how much equity, I like Paul Graham's approach best: if I started the business by myself, I would own 100% of the equity; if xxx joined me, he/she would increase my chances of success by 40% (40% is just an example) at this moment in time. Therefore, I should give him/her 40% of the company (http://paulgraham.com/equity.html) 3. In terms of range, it could go between (15-49%) depending on the level of skill. But anything less than 15%, I would personally not feel like a cofounder 4. Regarding salary and the fact that you will pay him/her, that's tricky but a simple way to think about it: If an outside investor were to invest the equivalent of a salary at this exact moment into the startup, what % of the company would they get? (this may lowball it if you think the valuation is high but then again if you think you could get a high valuation for a company with no MVP, then you should go raise money) One extra thing for you to noodle on: given you are not technical, I would make sure a friend you trust (and who's technical) help you evaluate the skill of your (potential) cofounder. It will help stay calibrated given you really like this person.MR

Business partner I want to bring on will invest more money than me, but will be less involved in operations, how do I split the company?
Cash money should be treated separately than sweat equity. There are practical reasons for this namely that sweat equity should always be granted in conjunction with a vesting agreement (standard in tech is 4 year but in other sectors, 3 is often the standard) but that cash money should not be subjected to vesting. Typically, if you're at the idea stage, the valuation of the actual cash going in (again for software) is anywhere between $300,000 and $1m (pre-money). If you're operating in any other type of industry, valuations would be much lower at the earliest stage. The best way to calculate sweat equity (in my experience) is to use this calculator as a guide: http://foundrs.com/. If you message me privately (via Clarity) with some more info on what the business is, I can tell you whether I would be helpful to you in a call.TW

What is the best timing in the new year to launch business marketing?
Hi there! In few words, the launch date does not matter a lot as long as you are following with a continuous marketing plan all the year. It is better to tune your lunch date according to your marketing campaign than connecting it to the seasonal event. The timing of your launch only matters if your website is already ranked or has a good authority associated to it. Launching a website is not like opening a local shop. The launch date is defined by the effectiveness of your marketing campaign. In other words, your question must be rephrased as: "When is the best time to launch my first marketing campaign for my newly created website?". In that case, you will need to describe in details what kind of website you have and how are you planning to market it. I would be able to give you a more accurate answer if you explain to me what kind of website are you planning to launch or what products mainly are you selling. Hope that helps!RZ

Need a good lead generation strategy for chiropractors for getting new patients. Ideas?
I think Facebook is great for really targeting your audience and you’re on the right track. But I think you can have a better funnel than that. I find, for getting better conversion today, it is better to get your Facebook traffic off of Facebook as fast as you can to your offer and into your funnel. It is more effective for driving actual sales. If you’re just looking for social branding etc. then your funnel might be ok. A very effect strategy is to create either a video or report that you give away to your audience in exchange for an email. It should be something that helps solve or bring to light the problems patients are suffering from and how to go about solving them. Then mention how having a great Chiropractor can solve all of that and can be the most effective way to get ride of the pain. I would also have some things in there that would help them in other ways. Then I would send them to an event or webinar with your top Chiropractor and you in an interview / reveal-all type webinar to educate your lead and manage their fears of going to a Chiropractor. You could tell them that the first step is making an appointment for an assessment. You should make it easy for them to find the best and most effective Chiropractor in their area. You might have a discount on the assessment only available to them for being on the webinar to get them to sign up at the end of the webinar. By the way, once this is recorded, you can make this evergreen so you don't have to do a webinar all the time. As long as you are reaching more and new people with your Facebook campaign you won’t have to change the video all the time. Once you have people signed up to make an appointment, make sure they are also putting a deposit of a 100 dollars or something down. This will increase your show rate for the Chiropractors. Then give them a voucher for that Chiropractor, for more than you’re asking for at the deposit for services, to use with that Chiropractor. Allowing you to prevent cancelations etc. so that their getting their money back in the form of a voucher for services which, by the way, is not a discount and shouldn’t diminishing your Chiropractors Rates. This strategy I have used in several markets that has produced more prequalified leads and patients / customers. Remember to test, track and know your metrics. You’re going to need to make some tweaks in the beginning, but this can be very effective for you. So to recap: 1. Setup a landing page with your offer in exchange for an offer. You can build this in software like Leadpages.net or Megaphoneapp.com 2. Make your offer downloadable if an ebook or white paper or present your video after. I recommend using Wistia instead of YouTube for playback as you will be able to have heat maps of your video to know where your fall off points are. You can also make this page with the software mentioned above. 3. Use an email autoresponder to engage your lead and email them about the event you’re doing after they had time to read or download your materials. Or, if a video, I would just pitch them at the end with a link below the video to automatically register. 4. Put on a webinar with your guest using either GoToWebinar or Google hangouts if you know how to set that up. 5. Make sure you have your appointment getting page with your the down payment created. You can use several different type of scheduling services so you can automatically deliver the lead/ appointment to the chiropractor. To Note: The reason I don’t send the visitor to the webinar first is because it is better to get the visitor predisposed to your information before asking them to commit to a webinar and when you do it the way I played out, you will have a much better show rate. This is it in a nutshell. Obviously there is more to it. If you need another funnel idea I am hear to help. I have used other effective strategies in the past to also make money on the front end to make your advertising free. It just depends on what you want to do and how advanced you want to get. Hope this helps give you some ideas. :) If you need help implementing something like this just let me know.MH

What is the best way to write a cover letter to an early-stage startup?
Better than a cover letter is to actually proactively DO something to help them. It'll show them not only that you've researched them, but you're passionate about the startup and worth bringing on. A man got a job at Square early on for just making them a marketing video on his own (back before they had one). Since you're a web designer, design a stellar 1-pager that's targeting their message to a particular niche. Something they could use on social media or something. If they're like most startups, they're not interested in reading cover letters. They're interested in passionate individuals who can add value to the organization.AS
