MenuHow many is too many affiliates for a video training product launch? Is it quality over quantity?
Answers
Response rate depends completely on the effectiveness of your material, quality of your product and site, brand recognition, commissions, etc.
Regardless, with affiliates, the more the better. You are paying commission. There is no real negative to having more effective affiliates.
When doing a product launch it's important that you follow a formula for getting the most out of it. Usually a launch consists of 3 content videos and 1 last sales video, which wraps it up and closes the sale. The content videos lead up to and help answer and solve the problems the market is having.
For attracting GOOOD affiliates, they look a few things:
1. Relationship - Being new to the market and no one knowing you, you have some ground to prove. You can combat this with fantastic marketing.
2. Commissions - Good affiliates are in it for the money and look at EPC (earnings per click) for the promotion. So before attempting to recruit the big boys, test the promotion first with paid traffic and get some core metrics to entice them.
3. The Quality - Warrior type folks are $5 buyers, not $500 buyers, so if that's your market (which is a start) keep your product cheap or else no one will buy. That market is cheap.
4. Build a solid Funnel - For a product launch to make sense for any affiliate it can't just be 1 sale, it should contain upsells, oto's, downsells, and potentially continuity. Get thinking of your upsell opportunities and products.
Lots more to learn. So get implementing!
You're getting great advice here already. One caveat I would add with regards to the number of affiliates is this . . . it depends what your time is worth and who is doing the actual "writing of checks."
If you are using a service like Clickbank where they issue the checks or if you have a bookkeeper who does this for you, no biggie. On the other hand, if you're doing it yourself, you might want to give some thought as to how wide you go. It always sounds great to have 1,000 affiliates, unless you're writing out 977 checks for $7. It's been been addressed in this thread already . . . do what you can to get quality over quantity. As Ali mentioned, there is no negative to having EFFECTIVE affiliates.
It sounds like you're good at relationship building and that will serve you really well in a product launch.
Inspire your affiliates to send their first email on "launch" day, which makes it look like "everyone" is talking about it. Keep them motivated with contests and leader boards. (Never underestimate the power of the iPad. Lol.)
If you know the personalities involved and the rivalries, reach out in personal email and egg them on . . . "Man, you're only 2 sales behind so-and-so! I thought you'd like to know how close you are!"
And as it's been mentioned here . . . make sure you've got an offer, upsells, etc. that deliver. Nothing motivates affiliates more than when you can show them the money!
Have fun with it and good luck to you! :) Dana

A StartUp is looking into setting up an affiliate marketing platform, I believe the setup is different to the industry standard. Any insights please?
So this model has been attempted before in various formats. As a direct comparison, 3-4 years back there was a company called WidgetBox. They were a startup. Successful in getting funding. Raised at least $8 million. Their changed up their model a few times but their most successful one was nearly identical to what you described. They went directly to various advertisers on a CPA basis and then guaranteed publishers a set CPM based on the agreed CPA with the merchants. Got as high as doing 500 million impressions a month. But they didn't appropriately account for fraud, had to back out on payouts, ended up nearly folding. They were able to pivot and be absorbed into Flite. A less direct comparison of your scenario is very common. Many affiliates these days operate what is considered a sub-network (against the rules of most larger affiliate networks) or a super-affiliate program. Examples are the dozens of loyalty affiliates out there like Upromise who also have their own affiliates (as well as members tracked on sub-ids) underneath them. Being the advertiser's "sole" affiliate is partially where I don't see the model you describe work. Unless your advertisers are completely unfamiliar with the digital space they are unlikely to only work with one company as their sole affiliates. Advertisers like to scale. It's why they work with networks. What ever you decide, Post Affiliate Pro does not have a robust enough of a platform for you to launch with. Beyond that the software's ability to help detect fraud is suspect. HasOffers (know called Tune) is a way better choice. Also recommend looking at Performance Horizon Group. Either way, highly recommend rethinking the "exclusivity" or "sole" component of your model and asking yourself why an advertiser would just go with you?AD

What Wordpress Plugins is the best for creating a Multi-Level Affiliate Marketing program?
There is a lot of points in your question which unless someone has the exact same setup as you - I don't think you will get the answers you are looking for. I believe you should limit it by asking yourself: What is the ONE thing the MLM plugin I am looking for can do so that it achieves the maximum amount of result to my business by using it? IMHO - it would be the ability to set commissions for the products you sell and award commissions to those affiliates that actually earn you sales. All other features, while nice, are ancillary features that from the perspective of the affiliate - don't really need in order to be successful. In that regard - I would suggest https://affiliatewp.com/. When it comes to running affiliate programs on WP sites, it wins out as the best in my experience. Hope this helps! Glad to assist any further if you need help.TB

iOS App: Beta vs Launch Quietly?
I would suggest launching in a foreign app store only (ex: Canada). That will allow you to get more organic users to continue iterating without a big push. I got this idea from Matt Brezina (Founder of Sincerely, previously Xobni) https://clarity.fm/brezina - he's the man when it comes to testing & iterating mobile apps.DM
