I am looking for an angel investor or crowd funding company who would do a half hour Skype interview with me.
I run courses for new natural skincare business entrepreneurs and they have some basic questions around getting investor ready.
My opinion will differ a lot from the others, but I am a angel investor myself and I also have angel investors investing into some of my businesses.
Rule One: Never approach an investor, wait for them to approach you. Trust me, your negotiation power will be multiplied enormously and you will walk away with a much bigger percentage. For example, if someone is approaching me to invest in their business I already know that they really "need" that cash, so that puts me into a very good position where I can easily walk away with a majority stake in the company, especially if it's a small startup. It's a deal with the devil my friend, some investors can be a real PIA. I saw a lot of startups going to hell and founders lose their job when investors raised capital etc etc - it's a dangerous game.
Rule Two: Do you really need an investor? Owning your business 100% is always better than having to reply to difficult questions on a weekly basis from people who are watching your back. It's a lot of pressure, no matter if someone invested 10k or 100k in your business. Sometimes getting a credit from a bank is the much better way to go - at least they don't tell you what to go.
Have a look at Jack Ma - he founded his business (Alibaba) with roughly 3k from family members and look where he is now. Avoid investors at any cost - bring only investors in who can actually help you with your business - that's different.
Firstly be clear with what you are pitching exactly? If it service/ product , ask yourself why I need this service/ product? What is the pain area this service/prodcut can solved? Who are my competitors? How I am different from them? And last but not least how I can make money out of it?
Answering these on a presentation will be your next pitch deck.
About finding angel investors i would recommend www.angel.co where you can create your profile and search angels related to your industry.
Also you can pitch directly to some investors by mails.
I can teach how to get investors email id using various free tools.
If you are looking for crowdfunding platforms make sure your product's prototype is ready, you do have some bootstrap money in your pocket by which you can create attractive video pitch and run a successful crowdfunding campaign using effective digital media marketing strategy.
Kickstrter, indiegogo are best in crowdfunding.
I am an Angel Investor with vast experience in startups. I have written a complete book on startups. It's called 'Startup Easy' and that will be published next month.
I can do the Skype interview with you. I would recommend you to do it through clarity. Skype is not supported here. We can discuss move if you setup a call. Please don't hesitate to have a look at my LinkedIn profile.
I will be happy to assist.
Hi, I am entrepreneur-investor and to answer your question: The first would be to target in what market/industry is your startup going to be. Then once you have the market/industry and the region you are working. Try to reach and connect first with the Angels - VCs that are in your area & the marketplace they invest in. Once you have them identified, try to reach them politely on their Linkedin & AngelList profiles and if they reply to you and are interested send them your business deck. Another way is to attend if you can meetups of conferences of Entrepreneurs & Business Angels whether in your area or internationally and meet them in person. Hope this can help. If you want further help or support connect with me and we can have a call and guide you.
If you want to connect with angel investors, check out / register your startup on www.gust.com and make sure to register on https://angel.co
