MenuWhat are the best practices in driving tour bookings for our travel agency?
Answers
Hi,
I've got years of experience in sales and small business management. While not travel-focused, I may be able to help.
Why are you so focused on a direct-sales approach?
I know travel agents that frequently sell adventure travel products for operators.
Have you properly analyzed all the sales channels available to you? Agents have relationships with frequent adventurers who rely on their input when making travel decisions.
If agents aren't part of your sales efforts, is it because your margins aren't correct?
Are you trying to fix a sales problem with a marketing solution?
Let me know if you'd like to book a call.
Dave.
Hi there, I am not a travel agency, but I am a blogger all about ecotourism, which is also a narrow niche in the travel industry. What I would like to add to this conversation is to consider contacting certain specific and popular travel blogger about your services. There are some bloggers who will put together a group of travelers from their followers and serve as leader of the group for a particular trip to a specific destination and experience. You may be able to negotiate a new relationship with such a blogger, and then this can become one of your sales funnels where the blogger is your marketing and sale rep.

Can you use Twillio as a smart routing business phone solution?
Yes, exactly what Twilio is capable of. If you need it for just your business, this can be done using simple scripts. Routing is actually the easy part. Voicemails are a bit more involved but they have you covered: https://www.twilio.com/docs/howto/voicemailSB

What kind of sales roles are there in a company like i.e. Box?
To help you with this, look at the offers on Box's website. There would be a sales support team for general questions and getting quotes and is basically the online sales. However, based on my experience, the biggest sales activity is probably focused on Business for the integration of Box within a company's infrastructure. This is what will generate the highest margin. This clearly a job on the field, being in contact with the companies day to day.AS

How to compensate a sales person?
Hi! I would be careful in compensating only by commission. This will give you the kind of sales reps you might not want. If you were to invest your time, would you not want to receive some kind of fixed fee for the invested time? Also, by paying commission based, you are telling the sales guy that you don't know if the product will sell, but that you don't want to be the one risking the time invested. I'd go for a mix.OL

What is the best commission model when hiring a sales person to sell digital marketing services to small businesses?
Option #1 (recommended): Use https://www.voiq.com/ and skip hiring someone. Option #2: Hire an SDR (right out of college, ex-athlete): and pay them an hourly rate as a consultant (3 month trial period). Pay them upon deals closing (commission % - the % will depend on your margins and the the On-Target Earnings you'd like them to make) and then give them bonuses in the form of prizes (i.e. a trip to Vegas for hitting their quota -- # of calls, # of meetings/# of opportunities created, # of deals closed that they sourced). Bonuses in the form of physical Gifts, especially at the SDR level, have been proven to drive employee happiness over $. If you have additional questions, happy to get on a call.PR
