MenuWe're creating a platform for photographers to sell their work on our site & we need to build a lean custom CMS. Any ideas of devshops? Thanks!

I would be happy to discuss this with you. Are you looking for a prototype or a full blown product? I specialize in development, and product planning. Please feel free to get in touch.
Building a CMS isn't lean. Using an off-the-shelf CMS that is selling enough of your photographers' work that both you, the end customer and the photographers all are saying isn't working anymore because of X, Y and Z reasons is lean.
Then, if you're at that point, I'd start looking at hiring a full-time dev to build a product infrastructure that's going to scale you up, instead of outsourcing.
I've been involved in too many "we'll just build the product with a custom version of an existing CMS" and also the "we're going to build everything from scratch before knowing what anyone really actually needs" so hope you can avoid some mistakes I've seen and felt pain for!
Happy to talk if I can be of help.
I think Wordpress is definitely your best answer and I would be glad to show you how easy it is.
Photo Gallery - Photographers can easily upload their work:
With a few Wordpress plugins (which are easy to use), there are plenty of photo galleries out there for your photographers.
Photographers selling their work:
I can show you how to add a simply ecommerce plugin on Wordpress to easily help the photographers sell their work online.
I would love to show you how on a call.

How can a small offshore development company find companies/software sales people to sell their service in the US/UK?
My company does a lot of consulting with offshore firms who are looking for a way to generate new business, so I hear this question a lot. My first reaction is that you need to totally reverse your mindset when you talk about your own company. You mentioned that you have: a great software developers team, proven track record, passion, real value But, everyone says that. There a 10,000 companies that have those things, so a customer isn't going to notice it. You need to figure out what your company is best at (doesn't have to be technical) and present it as a solution to a specific problem that clients have. Maybe a speciality, or really good project management, really good communications, a special expertise or experience, a personality, experience with a certain type of client.. really anything.. But, there must be some thing that makes your company 'special' otherwise you will be lost in the mix. Don't worry about things like rates, or the fact that you have 'great' developers. Those are generic. Think about why a client would really choose you, and try to build on that! After you understand your company identity, it gets much easier to identify and engage marketing channels because you understand your target.DH

How can I create a searchable large (3 million record) searchable database in WordPress?
Well first off I wouldn't recommend trying to power your client's database with the standard WordPress database instance. They can use WordPress for the website all they like. But with millions of records like that, you really don't want to move those data in with WordPress. For that matter, you're probably gonna want a dedicated database server to answer those questions, if the client doesn't already have one. You might also need to investigate something like Elastic Search, depending on what your search requirements are and what sort of database they are using (pay close attention to whether or not it provides full text search ability). Beyond that, and somewhat obviously, you're also gonna want SSL on the website and to make sure you're up to date on federal and state privacy requirements for data like this, as well as best practices for securely transferring data over the web (port configuration, ssh keys, etc). The privacy concerns would raise a flag for me. If those data have anything personally identifiable in them - which they very probably do - then you're really gonna want to make sure you do your research on security of personally identifiable information. Government specific privacy /security /auditability requirements may also apply, so double check that too.EV

Which country offers the best outsourcing value for tech entrepreneurs?
I've used outsourced services several times successfully. I don't think using geographic location is necessary a good indicator for outsourcing value. In my experience it depends on the type of service you are seeking. For example, I've used crowdsourcing services for logo and web designs and discovered creativity has no geographic boundaries. Neither is the skill level necessarily the only indicator for the best creative. Some designs have been submissions from design student or freelancers with no formal training. As for technical work, I seek service based on the following criteria: - technical competency and skills - communication skills - Process skills (to manage overall risk of project) - references from existing clients. Country is secondary to the above list.ID

What are the key accomplishments for the first year of a startup?
A generalized question can only get a generalized answer. The most significant accomplishment is validating that the product you have built is a fit with your target market. This is demonstrated primarily by engagement (the people who sign-up or who previously visited, continue to return) and secondarily by growth, ideally based on word-of-mouth or viral growth but effectively converting paid traffic is a great second prize. Other significant accomplishments include: Not running out of money Recruiting and retaining great talent who believe in the founders' vision. Your loved ones not thinking you're as crazy as they thought you were a year ago. I'm happy to talk to you in a call to give you more specifics about what you want to set as your goals more specific to your startup.TW
