I ran several sites in this space and I know a fair amount about it. I used to hire people like yourself and I had this conversation a lot of times. There are a lot of ways this can really help you build solid network that you can use to vault into other positions. I've seen some people do this really well and other people do this really poorly and get stuck writing press releases forever (which isn't necessarily awful, but was not their goal). There are huge ways that journalism skills are impacting marketing these days. This is definitely worth a call if you would like to do so.
