MenuFor a social media startup, what can be the strategy to bring students to test the App?
Answers
What I'm going to offer something that is a bit tricky and you need to use it with a lot of caution. It will also require some development.
One of the ways of growing fast and get additional users is by having current/ new subscribers to send their contact list a notification that they have joined your app and offer these contacts to join as well. You can add a screen after the first installation suggesting to send an invitation to certain friends (based on location. e-mail address/ Facebook criteria etc.), but you must make sure it is an opt-in option so you won't get your app spamming the current users contact list. This way you generate more users from current users sending them an invitation to try your app.
Does that make sense? I will be happy to elaborate if needed, just send me a message.
Good luck
Perhaps you might want to offer to come to a class and speak about entrepreneurship, programming and startups. Find a way to give first, and then at the end let them play with/use your app.
You can't go wrong if you are offering more than you are asking for.
Also, research has shown that you can get 80% of the information that you need from User testing with just 5 users. You might be able to get a lot more done with less people than you suspect.
The Test strategy should make sure that all the quality and performance guidelines are met. A few pointers in this area:
1) Selection of the devices – Analyse the market and choose the devices that are widely used. (This decision mostly relies on the clients. The client or the app builders consider the popularity factor of certain devices as well as the marketing needs for the application to decide what handsets to use for testing.)
2) Emulators – The use of these is extremely useful in the initial stages of development, as they allow quick and efficient checking of the app. The emulator is a system that runs software from one environment to another environment without changing the software itself. It duplicates the features and works on the real system.
Types of Mobile Emulators
Device Emulator- provided by device manufacturers
Browser Emulator- simulates mobile browser environments.
Operating systems Emulator- Apple provides emulators for iPhones, Microsoft for Windows phones, and Google Android phones
Besides if you do have any questions give me a call: https://clarity.fm/joy-brotonath
Give your app to 5 or 10 students and provide an easy way for them share it with friends. If they don't share it ask them why and you will learn a great deal about what needs to be changed so that they start sharing it. If they do share it, ask them why and you will learn about what to do more of.

What is the most creative way to introduce myself (and therefore my service) to 100 key decision-makers without selling or pitching anything?
You've answered your own question. Reach out to your prospects with the question, such as "How would you...". Ask what people want then give it to them if you can with integrity and thoughtfulness.DI

How does my startup hire an affordable marketing expert?
I don't even know how to answer this. Do you know what the difference between McDonalds and the local burger joint that is filing for bankruptcy is? It's marketing. McDonalds is worth billions of dollars not because of the quality of their food, but because of their marketing. Marketing is not an expense. A janitor is an expense. Your computer is an expense. Marketing is an INVESTMENT. Would you shop around for the cheapest heart surgeon? Of course not. Because you would likely end up dead. Why, then, do you shop around for a marketing expert? Are you ok with your company going bankrupt? Is that worth the small savings to you? No. Of course not. Hire someone who is good at marketing. Hire someone who knows what they are doing. Buy yourself a Lamborghini with your profit the first quarter. Get a beach house in hawaii. Grab a yacht. Or, try to find your business the cheapest heart surgeon you can and then spend the next five years wondering why such a solid business idea failed in the first 6 months. I'm passionate about this exact topic because all those statistics you read about "70% of businesses failing in two years" are solely because of horrible marketing.AM

If I am planning to launch a mobile app, do I need to register as a company before the launch?
I developed and published mobile apps as an individual for several years, and only formed a corporation later as things grew and it made sense. As far as Apple's App Store and Google Play are concerned, you can register as an individual developer without having a corporation. I'd be happy to help further over a call if you have any additional questions. Best of luck with your mobile app!AM

What is the best technology for developing a new mobile app from scratch?
There are two sides to that question. One is the mobile app itself and the other is the backend. If I misunderstood in any way and you didn't mean "native" app I apologize in advance. On the backend, there is no clear cut answer to which is the "best". It depends solely on the developers you are able to get. We for example use Node.js , mongoDB, redis, elasticsearch and a couple of proprietary tools in the backend. But you have your pick of the litter now both on the backend api and the datastore with the myriad of options available and touted as the "best" currently on the market. Now on the app side again it solely depends on what you need your mobile app to do. Experiencing first-hand "develop once, run anywhere" I can say it's more like "develop once, debug everywhere" to quote a Java saying. We have tried Phonegap and Titanium Appcelerator and we have switched to native (ObjC and Java) after a couple of months of trying to go the hybrid route. The reasons behind the choice are as follows: - anything that breaks the pattern of how those frameworks NEED to operate is just a huge technical debt that keeps accruing a huge interest. - anything that uses css3 accelerated animations on Android is buggy at best and slow as hell at worst on any lower (< 4.1 I think) versions of Android I hope this gives you some insight. Where can I find programmers willing to join a growing mobile start up for equity only?
You won't find anyone worth adding to your team willing to work for equity only, no matter how compelling your product and business is. The realities of the talent market for mobile developers anywhere is such that a developer would be foolish to work only for equity unless they are a cofounder and have double digit equity. Happy to talk about hiring and alternatives to full-time hires.TW
