MenuWhich link shortener should we use in our social sharing strategy to track our Analytics?
We are developing our social and gamification strategy for our next release and we want to track Analytics of each shared link with click through rates. What are the link shorteners we should be utilizing? We have two kinds of links one will be a sharing of a level attained by drinking water in our app, a second is an "activate your health" share which may be shared from your health dashboard with our demographic's top 3 social networks or emailed specifically to "at risk " for diabetes loved ones.

I might suggest starting with Bitly and exploring the possibility of getting a custom branded shortener, which you can set up through Bitly once the domain is purchased. For example, my website is philpallen.com but I shorten all links to philp.al/link so it's more professional.
I feel like many other shorteners look like spam, but I'd say your safe with Bitly because it's widely used. A custom one would be even better!
I've tried ½ dozen and I've scaled it down to two. 1) Goo.gl and 2) Bitly
I use Goo.gl when I post to Google+ and Bitly everywhere else. If you're planning to use Buffer App to schedule your updates, you will like how seamlessly Bitly works with Buffer. Even the fremium version lets you search for and find your Bitmarks to track # historical of clicks on your links.

bit.ly would be my recommendation due to its nice layout and ease of use. Also, it is free and supports multiple platforms including your own custom domain. Its easy to see the clicks in hourly, daily, weekly or fortnightly graphs and It support multiple social networks and the links appear optimized when shared on these.

Some social media management tools use their own shorteners such as Hootsuite & Hubspot. I recommend using Bit.ly since it connects really well with other solutions out there. It's simple & easy to use.

I'm a bitly fan as well as a custom campaign advocate. Track every link with where it is placed. This has been a game changer with clients. Easy Google Template to get you going. Essentially you can monitor which link is getting the best traction on which network. It's not just about focusing on the link but about which network works best for the link.

Design your own. There's a domain service called Hover.com (owned by Tucows) where you can buy your own short domains and set up your own vanity shortener URLs on them. You can use .com or .net .info or any of the new extensions. I just set up cwd.link as a shortener for our social links on our new business cards - We're Cyberwalker Digital (CWD) and so cwd.link/tw is the link we use on the cards to our Twitter account and cwd.link/fb for Facebook
As everyone has stated, we use a custom bit.ly (http://rckstr.us/) as well as GaggleAMP.com (which provides advanced tracking and will tie to my Google Analytics to track performance). I also use ads.twitter.com to track raw performance of individual tweets.

As everyone above suggested, bit.ly is probably the best one available in the market. But I will suggest you to take a look at a new link shortener service called Snip.ly. I started using it very recently and really loving it.
The uniqueness of this link shortener is that you can add 'custom call to action' to each shortened link. Then you can track analytics for both the link and also the 'call to action' engagement. You can give it a try and see whether it serves your purpose.
We're using Hootsuite's shortener and you can apply your own custom domain to it as well. Additionally, Hootsuite has analytics tracking built into their publishing tool which is quite helpful. Hootsuite also offers an API to shorten links outside of their publishing tool.
As an affiliate marketer i need to track all the click on my links across all the websites... i investigated in Goo.gl and Bit.ly solutions but i wanted a hosted solution. I found Yourls an open source shortener and Prosper202. I use Yourls with a Google Analytics plugin on my own domain name www.jeclic.com and i can see all the click as page view in GA, i have interesting detailed reports :)

If your intent is the shortest possible URLs and you don't care about using your own vanity domain, bit.ly also owns the "j.mp" domain, which can be interchanged anywhere you otherwise see "bit.ly".
However, if you're looking for more detailed metrics, you might also want to consider looking at some of the ad tracker tools internet marketers use, as they support features like advanced campaign management and duplicate detection.
hyperTracker (www.hyperTracker.com) provides some pretty detailed metrics, and they also provide guidance for using your own short domain(s) to masquerade URLs created with their service.
I 100% recommend Linkhero. It's SO much better than Bit.ly and Goo.gl with added features to help you pixel your audiences (and their actions) re-direct traffic, and retarget. The founder of Linkhero is a good friend of mine. You're welcome to watch the video interview I did with him. Search "Trish Leto Link Hero" in YouTube and you'll find it. How do you build social media presence up before a product launch?
It can certainly be tough to build up a substantial follower base, starting from nothing or very little, especially if you haven't launched your product yet. But here are a few tactics to help you get in front of more people pre-launch: 1) Start sharing tons of useful content. Before you bother sending people to your Twitter feed or Facebook page, you want to make sure they'll find something valuable once they get there. If you have the time, create original content that ties into your industry, your product, or your company in some way (without directly promoting yourself, though). If you don't have the bandwidth to create your own content, find other articles from bloggers you admire or experts in your industry, and share their content. Just make sure you're putting out information that's highly relevant and valuable to the audience you're trying to attract so you can engage them once they find you. 2) Create conversation. The people who aren't following you yet aren't seeing your tweets, so how do you show them value and get them to discover you? Start a conversation! At Change Collective, we're rolling out our first course on Becoming an Early Riser. So I'll do a Twitter search for "need to wake up earlier" and find a bunch of people who are tweeting about the exact problem we're setting out to solve. By favoriting their tweets or replying with -- "That's great! We think we can help - check out our newest course & let us know what you think!" -- I'm getting our product on their radar and simultaneously providing value to them. 3) Ask for help. Start with your fellow team members, and ask them to share the company's Facebook posts or retweet some of your tweets. You can even create lazy tweets for them to share. What are the best tools to use for growing social media reach?
Hi! Happy to answer this question. Initially, I'd ask "what are you tracking at present?" And "what are your goals?" Software wise, I love to use a few tools for Twitter. Hootsuite to schedule relevant content (and not all tweets should be scheduled--happy to touch on this more), Tweetreach to get a feel for impressions/influencers who HAVE been engaging (in my mind, impressions are KEY, more so than Follower count because hashtags can help you reach more people) and Sprout Social for a more in depth view of your Twitter analytics. Getting more visibility/followers: what hashtags are you using? How often do you acknowledge those who follow you (new followers vs existing followers)? Are you just sharing autoscheduled content and links OR are you creating conversations? Hashtags wise: find those that have a community already centered around them! *You don't want to "hashtag hijack" however, tags like #smallbiz #blogchat #_________ specific to your industry or ideal client's industry can go a long way. Other tools that people use to track community and engagement include Sum All, and Commun It https://commun.it/ Once you start tracking impressions (and monitoring growth vs plateaus) you can then go back and look at your content to see which posts generated the most response/engagement. Again, just want to emphasize that creating conversations and asking questions are great methods to do all of the things you are looking to accomplish.JM

How did Snapchat boast a solid user base within a short period of time, compared to Facebook and Twitter?
I've been in the picture messaging space for a while now with my apps Lutebox (voted one of London's top ten most loved apps) and now Click Messenger. I've written a few articles about the space including a recent post about the Future of Mobile Messaging. Snapchat started out as an app called Picaboo, which pretty much did what it does now (prior to the latest update with chat and video calling). They quickly rebranded but saw a little uptake in user numbers and had quite low downloads for several months. Then around Christmas 2011 one of the founders' mom had told her friend about the app, who told her kid and her kid basically then spread the word throughout their high school in L.A. That was what really blew up their download numbers as it spread across teenagers at local high schools. As far as I know they didn't advertise in the early days, relied solely on word of mouth. Also it is assumed that they have a solid user base. Comparatively speaking, their user base may be in the low tens of millions, which may a great base of users, but nowhere even close to being as big as Facebook or Twitter. I'd be happy to speak about this in more detail or about the picture messaging landscape and what I believe to be the future of mobile messaging.AA

What are some good solutions to driving up YouTube views on my recent TEDx video?
I like to approach these things with big wins. One, ask yourself who your message would help? Who would find this really valuable? It may not be people you'd typically think. Look outside of your industry. Find where those people hangout online. Where are they on Facebook? What are they reading? etc. Then brainstorm ways that you can show up on those channels. For example: let's say your peeps love Forbes. Have you pitched Forbes yet? Or let's say that mommy bloggers would go crazy for your idea (so you think). You hit up some of them via email and tell them you'd love to share this free content. You'd think it'd be valuable. Content creators are always in the biz of finding more great content. So, when you can provide it and it makes sense (your job is to show why it makes sense) then people are happy to promote. The scariest part about this is pitching it because it can feel vain. The key is thinking about those you're helping, removing yourself from the equation and releasing the outcome.
