Paul McGuire

Paul is one of the most organized individuals I have ever met. I have had the pleasure of working with him on several occasions during my time in IEM and I'm always impressed by the preparedness, structure and clarity he brings to any team.

To be specific, we recently worked together to plan and coordinate a seminar for incoming IEM clients. Paul was the lead of our Project Management Organization team, where we had oversight of a number of other groups. His ability to maintain awareness of everything that was in progress was really quite outstanding. He communicated expectations of how things should be implemented, distributed responsibility to others, held those people to task, and maintained an appropriate level of urgency from start to finish. The three-day seminar was a resounding success, due in large part to Paul's leadership.

Paul has absolutely no issues speaking in front of a group, whether the material is prepared or impromptu. He sets personal and professional goals - and achieves them. He has solid technical know-how and project management skills that are second-to-none. I would whole-heartedly recommend Paul to anyone.

Paul is a high-detailed individual who led our team for several projects during our time at UAB. Not only did he show strong leadership, he did so in a well articulated way that motivated everyone in our class. I highly recommend Paul, and any work he does. When you work with Paul, you know projects will be completed on time and under budget.

As a class, we volunteered Paul for the leadership role in our PMO to run our class seminar project. He accepted and brought our class together effectively with the project executed smoothly and on time. Paul took the reigns, got us organized into teams, and kept us all communicating so that no one person felt overwhelmed with their share of the work. He is always available, on time, and ready to engage. I also shared my first group project with Paul and we had a similarly top-notch experience working with him. He delivered timely, high quality work on any assignment asked of him. I look forward to working with Paul as we finish our classwork and on into the professional arena.

Paul is leader who demonstrates true optimism. When he in in charge of a project - you never wonder where things are going.

It has been a great pleasure to have Paul in my classes. He is an outstanding student with very strong leadership skills, a great work ethic, and a passion for learning. If I were to sum up all of his excellent attributes, the result would be simply this: Paul gets things done and done well.

I’ve known Paul McGuire for over a year through the IEM Program at UAB. Paul is always professional, dependable and most of all approachable. I believe that his sincerity and determination to help others achieve their goals is as important to him as succeeding himself.

Paul developed his position from Specialist to Manager by proving that he could insure the Unix platform was operational in a 24x7 environment. He brought skills that immediately improved our availability in a time-critical financial application system. Our ASP environment was held to very tight Service Level Agreements and Paul was instrumental in hiring and managing a staff that maintained the SLAs. He researched, recommended and oversaw the purchase and implementation of the software packages required to keep the environment secure and operational.

During his 4 years spent managing my team, Paul helped to shape the systems we have in place today through improving the technologies we use and the processes through which we do so. Not only are we better able to function internally within the support area through these processes, but we are also able to provide more valuable service to our customers as a result. He was a real asset to our team and environment.

Paul has one of the most willing and helpful attitudes that could be requested. His attention to details and abilities made it easy to hand work to him and know that it would be done well. He has a technical mind and is a very capable programmer who also understands the help that comes from researching the best practices of his systems.
