I Focus on Teaching Startups to Raise Seed and Venture Capital Funding.
I have nine years of experience as a venture capitalist at a firm based on Sand Hill Road in Silicon Valley. I've evaluated thousands of companies, led many deals, and sat as a board member and adviser in many companies. I've now spent the last few years focused on teaching and mentoring startups solving meaningful problems, primarily around fundraising, but frankly any other topics you might also consult with your board on - hiring and team construction, advisory boards, overall business and sales strategy, acquisition positioning, etc.
In fundraising, we typically organize the conversations into
1) Strategy: timing, amount, type of capital, type of investors, team allocation
2) Document creation: deck, data room, fundraising model
3) Sales funnel: creating a formal or informal CRM, a sales funnel, how to identify and approach target firms
4) Closing process: term sheet 101, negotiating strategy, alternative structures beyond a normal large lead with small follow-on and insiders
While most of the guidance tends to be higher level business and fundraising strategy, I am also comfortable diving into the details of a financial model, investor deck, or product roadmap. I've been both a junior and senior person in venture capital, so I'm pretty comfortable using whichever skill set is appropriate to the situation.
