Founder of techcommtools.com. Specializing in interactive content and mobile delivery. Author of a 700 pg. FrameMaker book. Adobe's go-to for conference and webinars on tech comm products.
I've been helping groups set up, manage, and output content using Adobe FrameMaker for over 15 years. My FrameMaker book (Publishing Fundamentals: Unstructured FrameMaker) is pretty much the only FrameMaker reference book written in the last few years.
I work with the FrameMaker dev team to improve the product, especially as it relates to the interface and electronic publishing (Help, EPUB, HTML5) features.
I run online classes (for the Society for Technical Commucation) as well as present webinars (for Adobe Systems) to show people how to get more interactive material in their docs, and how to deliver that content to the needed devices.
Matt did an excellent job in bringing the technical writing team at Hitachi Data Systems up to speed on the TCS. We were quickly able to incorporate it into our document development process. His complete knowledge of the subject and his excellent teaching skills clearly make him a valuable resource when learning or implementing any Adobe application.
Matt is incredibly fluent in all things Adobe. I hired Matt to train my team on FrameMaker and RoboHelp. We loved him! He provided customized training geared directly for our needs, giving us hands-on training within our own doc set. During the training, he gave us excellent template design advice, to streamline our authoring and document development processes. Additionally, when we ran into RoboHelp problems, Matt was incredibly responsive and helped us meet tight deadlines. Matt exceeded all of our expectations and his sense of humor makes learning fun. I highly recommend Matt for your training needs.
Matt is a fabulous public speaker. His presentations are informative, educational, fun and interactive. Last night's presentation at the OCSTC was no exception!
One highlight for me was learning why my software programs always ask me if I want to "edit the original" AND finding out I had been giving the wrong answer for years. Now that I know better, I am sure my images will improve. I also learned where an elusive Photoshop command is that I had sought for years and saw some tricks in Captivate and InDesign that I can't wait to try.
If the topic (aka article, presentation, training class, etc.) has to do with graphics in any way...Matt should certainly be the first one you call!
We hired Matt through roundpeg to help us develop FrameMaker templates and the experience has been wonderful. He really listened to our objectives and made thoughtful suggestions that improved our documentation process. Matt is extremely knowledgeable about FrameMaker and would outline all my options and make a recommendation, but would ultimately respect whatever I felt was best for our organization. Instead of making my requested changes and sending them to me, he would set up online meetings so I could learn how to maintain the templates myself. I wholeheartedly recommend Matt for your training and FrameMaker needs.
Matt and I worked together for a client that was one of the most demanding either of us had ever encountered. Many times we were asked to do the improbably difficult tasks that others found impossible. Long days, late hours, hectic schedules seemed to be the normal way to work.
Matt was one of the few people that I saw at all hours, working away to meet the needs of the client. His determination to get the job done, and desire to see it done right are traits that set him apart from many others in the field.
I would recommend Matt to anyone who needs an expert in the field who puts in the time and effort needed, and isn't afraid of jumping into a project that many others may shy away from due to the complexity of the task, or the level of commitment needed.
