Matthias Baur is an experienced consultant for business case creation, digital business, market entry strategies including trade shows, NPD and in food, wine and gourmet related businesses.
Having worked for more than 17 years for the world’s largest trade show and media companies (Messe Frankfurt, Reed Exhibitions, United Business Media), he has deep knowledge and connections in the global exhibition, conference and digital B2B industries.
He has built B2B businesses in all relevant economies from France, Germany, US and the UK to Brazil and Australia. A special focus of his business development activities have been Asia - specifically China, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Indonesia. He has many years of experience in launching market researched based business cases, event acquisitions, event new launches and B2B sales, marketing and growth strategies.
At Reed Exhibitions he was the global e-Business Director. He executed large scale and global projects in digital transformation, big data, social media, e-Commerce and online marketing. He is also experienced in global roll outs of CRM software such as Salesforce or the development and roll out of digital directories and other digital applications.
He has been key note speaker at many conferences around the world covering topics such as social media, international business development and innovation in matrix organisations.
During his time at UBM he managed the company’s food ingredients portfolio comprising more than 12 tradeshows, 20 conferences, a magazine and an online portal. He is experienced at building cross cultural teams to grow businesses internationally.
Matthias Baur runs his own freelance consultancy and he is a lecturer at the University DHBW in Ravensburg, Germany where he teaches students on the topics of business development and international project management. He is also Vice Chairman of the Innovation Technology group of the world association for exhibition organizers UFI.
Additionally, Matthias Baur founded the World Gourmet Society in 2010. He has created the world’s largest group for gourmets on LinkedIn and formed a society of food enthusiasts which is the largest of its kind worldwide. He is well connected in the Michelin starred gourmet world (chefs, restaurants, tourist boards, PR companies) and has a wealth of knowledge in global food, wine, hospitality and restaurant industry.
