Hans Hageman

As a writer and coproducer for the annually televised Essence Awards, I had an opportunity several years ago to research the East Harlem School at Exodus House, intervie Hans and witness first hand the work he was doing there and chronical the school's sucessed in the lives of the children he had helped to save. It was for this work the Hans and his brother were recipients of the Essence Award, and it was my honor to profile him in a segment I produced for the televised show.

During my tenure with Boys & Girls Harbor, I have found Hans to be an incredible leader. His insight, vision and leadership skills are the best I have seen in my professional career. I have yet to encounter a situation where he has been too busy to have time for the students. His patience and caring are second to none.

In the words of Albert Einstein, "Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person."

His tireless efforts, dedication and commitment all make Hans the ideal leader.

As a graduate intern and a former student of ENCH working with Mr. Hans has been an amazing experience. His great problem solving skills, work ethics, and determination inspired me to take a step forward and work for what i want in life.

Hans is an inspiring and innovative educator and mentor. His strong ethics, caring personality and strong sense of purpose inspire even the most apathetic of individuals. For those of us who, by choice or calling, engage in the movement towards pedagogical liberation and for which we must have the ability to focus on life’s brilliant scheme of human struggle and triumph, working with Hans is simply a treat.
