Fundraising and strategic finance advisor to tech companies, former VP Finance of Bazaarvoice (NASDAQ:BV) and startup head of finance. Prior to tech was a hedge fund and private equity investor and investment banker. Mentor at Techstars.
I served as the VP of Finance for a private tech company that executed an IPO and public equity follow-on offering and oversaw investor relations for the post-IPO company. I can advise on the IPO process, how to make the decision to go public, the pros and cons of being public, how to present your company to and speak with public investors, how to determine public financial guidance, prepare for quarterly earnings releases and how to prepare your finance team and financial documents to be a public company.
As a finance executive, I have raised $350 million in equity and debt capital through venture rounds, term loans, mezzanine loans, an IPO and a public follow-on offering. I have also worked as a public and private equity investor and investment banker making investments and advising on over $23 billion worth of M&A, bankruptcy restructuring and equity transactions. I currently serve as an advisor to companies pursuing angel financing, both Series A and Series B venture equity and late stage private equity. I can advise on the process of any fundraising stage and help with all of the assets required for the process (e.g., investor deck and model, financial and legal diligence, term sheets, etc.)
Employee stock options are one of the least understood components of pay and benefits, yet often represent the most significant portion of an employee's compensation and one of the most expensive forms of pay for a company. Having served as VP of Finance for a private tech company that went through an IPO, as well as the head of finance at a tech start up, I have experience with early stage and late stage companies with respect to options plan administration, capital table management, options budgeting, tax issues and most importantly, communication of the value of equity to prospective and existing employees. Effectively communicating the value of stock options is imperative to recruiting and retaining top talent.
I have overseen large finance and budget teams across multiple countries for a public company before, during and after an IPO as well as overseen a small finance team at a startup where we designed the financial model and budget process from scratch. Budgeting is one of the most tedious, yet most critical finance and control functions and one of the few processes that involves the entire company and board. I can advise as to how to make the process more efficient and accurate from budget creation to the monthly accounting close process to management variance reporting and to board reporting.
After serving as a public equity hedge fund investor, I became the sole investor relations officer for a tech company that executed an IPO with a $1.2 billion market cap and oversaw the IPO process, attended the IPO investor roadshow, managed all buy-side and sell-side analyst relationships, attended investor conferences, produced quarterly earnings call scripts and press releases, established quarterly and annual public company financial guidance and helped prepare SEC filings. I offer a unique perspective having been on both sides of the table as an investor and an IR officer and can advise on everything related to investor relations strategy.
