I'm a co-founder of a consulting company called Universal Design Partners. My background is a combination of technical communication and parks and recreation management. I am a therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS), meaning I utilize leisure and recreation to promote health and wellness, which has direct therapeutic value on other areas of life.
Our company consults with businesses, organizations, individuals, and/or families about implementing universal design and accessibility into places, products, and/or programs. We provide valuable knowledge about the ways people function and how that relates to the way things are designed.
We are health care professionals, not a design firm. Our business model is about forming partnerships with professionals in other fields to strengthen their efforts by adding an in-depth layer of knowledge of how people move, think, and communicate, which will increase function – access and usability – for just about anything. This not only results in better business practices for our clients, but powerful social change.
