Moving to the US at 20 years old for the sole purpose of college was a dream that quickly turned into a nightmare when I arrived as a legal immigrant and found out almost right away that it was illegal for me, as a LEGAL immigrant, to work just like everyone else. I had just packed my bags and left a country where our college degrees were worth nothing to move to a country where my college degree would be worth something, except I wouldn't be allowed to work during or even after college (depending on my major). My dad had just spent thousands of dollars that he practically didn't have to send me to the US to go to college so that I could become successful, and it turned out that was not how it worked.
