MenuHow and what to do in order to advertise a new app? Should we start with the free version and When is the best time to set up a price for the app?
We have developed a psychological game based on art psychotherapy (according to shapes and colors we show how your unconscious brain is working trough 5 dimensions on a daily/weekly and monthly basis) with the aim to help people to understand and discover themselves on more deeply level.

Well done for creating the app. Great question.
Regarding setting the price: I would try run a survey with some screen shots that show the game and it's purpose/experience, and ask potential users how much they would pay. I would run one survey with open end questions, such as: "which payment method would you prefer? Answers: one time payment, download payment, monthly payments, yearly payments....
and "How much would you be willing to pay for the service - in each of the various payment options".
Then, I'd run another survey with the same questions, but provide various options for them to choose from. There is a lot of psychology behind the way the questions are done, so it is important to do them correctly.
Once you've done these survey's, you'll have a better understanding of what you users are willing to pay, and how. Also, if you do the survey right, you could collect potential first clients (they would leave their email address and you can notify them when you launch).
Good luck,

The best way to start an app advertisement is through social media it will help you reach out to a lot of people with little time and I think its best you make the app free for now but if you wanna set a price for it I know ways to make it easy for you, I also have a platform where I help individuals who are looking for ways to promote their product and services ,If you have anymore questions am always available.
Based on your description of the app I would suggest that you need some users before you can even plan for charging them. Once you have some initial users they will do the word of mouth marketing and help you spread the word faster. So take in account the money saved in marketing.
Charging or not charging also really depends how much cash your company has and how much longer your startup can survive without making any money from it. Whatever is the time estimate, deduct 3 to 6 months from it and start charging. Timing this is the essential part of the strategy.
I think its best you make the app free for now. The good idea is firstly you pay money to advertise your apps.
You can use Facebook, Chartboost ads to get your apps advertised.
Post your apps in Android forums like warrior forum, making money with Android, etc.
Post your apps on SNS networks. Making sure who is your target users, and then join this kind of group on Facebook, Linkedin, Google plus, introduce your apps to as many people as you can.
Build a website about your apps.
Choosing the right keyword on Google play store(ASO).
If you know some professionals, ask them to write some positive articles.
Asking your existing users for feedback, then encourage them to rate your apps.
Pay money to advertise your apps. You can use Facebook, Chartboost ads to get your apps advertised.
Exchange traffic(Ads exchange) with some other developers.

What is the generally agreed upon "good" DAU/MAU for mobile apps?
You are right that the range is wide. You need to figure what are good values to have for your category. Also, you can focus on the trend (is your DAU/MAU increasing vs decreasing after you make changes) even if benchmarking is tough. Unless your app is adding a huge number of users every day (which can skew DAU/MAU), you can trust the ratio as a good indication of how engaged your users are. For games, DAU/MAU of ~20-30% is considered to be pretty good. For social apps, like a messenger app, a successful one would have a DAU/MAU closer to 50%. In general most apps struggle to get to DAU/MAU of 20% or more. Make sure you have the right definition of who is an active user for your app, and get a good sense of what % of users are actually using your app every day. Happy to discuss what is a good benchmark for your specific app depending on what it does.SG

I just opened a small, upscale, boutique style hair salon. Any ideas on how to market?
I have no experience with salons, but marketing is my thing. So I'll give you some suggestions of what to think about, followed by what to do. Do you have clients already (let's say from your working days at another salon)? If so, you can start profiling them. You can ask them to fill out a form in exchange for a free gift (maybe one of those creams you use in the salon), or an entry to a raffle (where the prize is valuable). In the profiling, you want to look out for which neighborhoods they live in, what kinds of activities they like to do, what kinds of social events they love to do, and their occupations. Then, using each of those profile data, you can market to more prospects who share the same characteristics. For example, - You can set aside a budget to send flyers to specific neighborhoods. In order to get people into the door, maybe you can offer a certain procedure for free in exchange for opportunities to win new regular customers. (You could theoretically do this with Groupon too, but you have less control of who comes into your door) - You could set up joint venture relationships with organizations like ball room dancing schools, professional associations, etc. You could offer an exclusive discount with those groups to entice potential customers to try out your service. More opportunities for you to win regular customers. - With certain demographic data, you can probably make the same offer by advertising on Facebook. If you target specific enough, you can get the price of acquiring the lead to be pretty cheap. You would have to figure out your typical lifetime value of your customers before deciding whether advertising on Facebook would be worthwhile. One last thing, you can offer gifts for your existing customers if they refer you people. If you have any more questions, I'm happy to chat with you. Hit me up on this platform.SL

What is the most creative way to introduce myself (and therefore my service) to 100 key decision-makers without selling or pitching anything?
You've answered your own question. Reach out to your prospects with the question, such as "How would you...". Ask what people want then give it to them if you can with integrity and thoughtfulness.DI

What is the best technology for developing a new mobile app from scratch?
There are two sides to that question. One is the mobile app itself and the other is the backend. If I misunderstood in any way and you didn't mean "native" app I apologize in advance. On the backend, there is no clear cut answer to which is the "best". It depends solely on the developers you are able to get. We for example use Node.js , mongoDB, redis, elasticsearch and a couple of proprietary tools in the backend. But you have your pick of the litter now both on the backend api and the datastore with the myriad of options available and touted as the "best" currently on the market. Now on the app side again it solely depends on what you need your mobile app to do. Experiencing first-hand "develop once, run anywhere" I can say it's more like "develop once, debug everywhere" to quote a Java saying. We have tried Phonegap and Titanium Appcelerator and we have switched to native (ObjC and Java) after a couple of months of trying to go the hybrid route. The reasons behind the choice are as follows: - anything that breaks the pattern of how those frameworks NEED to operate is just a huge technical debt that keeps accruing a huge interest. - anything that uses css3 accelerated animations on Android is buggy at best and slow as hell at worst on any lower (< 4.1 I think) versions of Android I hope this gives you some insight. What are average profit margins in Ice Cream store business?
Hi! I am owner of an ice crean chain with 45 stores in Chile. We have stores in shopping centers, streets and also karts that you can put in events and parks. The average cost margin of ice cream (depends on the amount of materials you use in producing the ice cream) is around 40%. This is italian gelatto where you serve the ice cream without a specific measurement so your costs can vary due to the size of each portion you serve. About the brand you should focus on your unique value proposition and what kind of ice cream you are selling. We import the pastry from Italy and the fruits and milk from our country. Your ROI depends on your sales price and costs. If you focus on high market ice cream you can charge high and keep costs down.MF
