MenuHow will this idea generate revenue?
Matching new consumer brands with hospitality spaces to test customer demand.
Is anyone else doing this already?
And how can I generate revenue from this idea?
Answers
I think you'd have a good market if you started with hotels like Ace, etc. who want to be trendy and using local consumer brands.
There are probably several ways to monetize this.
1) Work with the hospitality companies to curate the brands that they want to represent their company. You can charge as a service provider for this.
2) Work with the consumer brands and push the products on hospitality spaces. You can charge as a marketing agency.
3) Both options above also leave room for you to monetize as an affiliate (take kick-backs for sales generated by your service). I think it was Ace that was also selling the products that they were using to guests. (ex. if you liked the soap, towels, robe, etc. you could buy them through the hotel.) You can an affiliate kick-back (probably shared with the hotel in this case) for every sale.
These are just a few thoughts, but there are a ton of possibilities and I'd have to know more details about what you are thinking to advise better.
Good Luck!
Sounds like a great idea.

What are the pros and cons of branding under a personal name vs a brand name?
If you are going to lead the workshops: Start with personal branding. Workshops and coaching are by experts and I'd recommend building a personal brand first. People should build trust in you. Then your offerings. Each offering that you have - a workshop, a coaching program etc. - should have it's own branding. You may even have separate websites for each of your offerings. If you are only organizing the business and not going to lead the programs yourself: then you got to do a corporate branding. So people relate to the organization more than individuals delivering the programs. The coaching / self help / personal development / health industry is full of examples of both branding strategies. If you study a few cases, and their business models, you will gain better insights on why they chose their branding strategy. And you can even question if the strategy worked or not. I hope this gives additional perspective to what you are thinking. Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this further.NM

What are the must-read (or must be on) sites for small/mid-size hotel group executives?
It really depends on what specific topic you're interested in. There are specific websites, distribution lists and blogs for many topics and nice sub-topics. There's even paid reports on 'insider' information. We'd suggest our blog for hotel tutorials (www.hoteliyo.com/tutorials). Also, check out Skift.com. If you'd like to know more, we can offer a short call to assist.MM

I need assistance with Creating an Internet Marketing plan to generate new bookings for a Local Hotel in my area. Who can help me with a call?
Happy to help with this and can probably bring lots of ideas to the table. Also, since LOCAL is the focus, you can't just use digital. Most of your bookings are going to come from local non digital marketing, but they will coincide with the digital marketing you do. The efforts need to be combined for effectiveness. If you are interested in a call please send me link to hotel's site so I can research before hand. OTA might not be the way to go. Happy to hop on a 10 minute free call to discuss further to see if there is a fit.CL

What % of your marketing should be brand marketing vs direct marketing?
It depends on the stage of your business. If you are at the beginning, spending money on brand advertising is a sure NO. Which doesn't mean you shouldn't aim to build a brand... Building a brand is always good, it increases the value of your business allowing you also to sell it if you decide you want to exit and start something else. Spend money on direct marketing, test and refine what works and test new, even cheaper avenues. And build your brand without investing money in advertising, start with defining the mission & main story of your business, its key values them creating a memorable identity- logo, main colors, main fonts, templates for all marketing materials, activities, channels, tagline that captures your brand essence, and finally making sure you are consistent using the above tools. Branding also takes a lot of time but as long as you are consistent and you do a good job with the elements above, you will be on your way and you won't need to spend money advertising it. Obviously the more unique the business story & brand elements, the higher your chances to achieve brand awareness and recognition faster.DG

What is the best way to validate and monetize this idea?
Validation and monetization - two great questions. See some great tips on how to do validation in this answer: https://clarity.fm/questions/6423/how-do-you-do-market-research (happy to help you plan your specific validation process) Regarding monetization - the most suitable business models in this case would be commission / intermediate fee taken from either the advertisers or the owners of the advertising spaces (spas, coworking spaces) or both of them.
