MenuWhat are some good methods to successfully crowfund a short film?
Looking for some proven methods on how to create a successful kickstarter campaign for a short feature film? I'm looking to crowd fund about 20k.

Since part of a reason you have people donating money is either they believe in your story or mission or they want to be a part of what you are making. So getting a well known actor involved and utilizing him in any capacity would help you achieve your goal. Also placing your video pitch in well established sites can give you a leg up. Don't count on the people that already visit kickstarter.
I don't want to link-bait, but I did write a blog post about the best crowdfunding practices.
I think there is a few good steps.
- Find your best competitor. (how did they succeed)
- Where does your market exist online. (reddit, facebook, instagram, specific blogs, etc)
- Create a trailer & landing page and try getting press aimed at your specific audience.
- Launch the Kickstarter with hype & have a marketing plan + press ready. With those you could easily hit $20k.
Here's the blog link if it will be helpful.

Any opinions on raising money on Indiegogo for an app?
Apps are difficult to fund on IndieGoGo as few are successful, and we rarely take them on as clients. Websites like http://appsfunder.com/ are made for that very reason, but again, difficult to build enough of a following willing to pay top dollar for an app that could very well be free, already existing in the marketplace. A site that is gaining more traction you may want to look into would be http://appsplit.com/. Again, Appsplit Is Crowdfunding For Apps specifically.RM

How can I get press for Kickstarter campaign in advance before launching?
Have a great story / hook. Reach out to outlets who 1) are relevant 2) write about Kickstarter campaigns regularly. Determine why you want the press, pre-launch. It should either be for social proof for your "Kickstarter As Seen In Logo Banner" or to drive any traffic to a landing page to gather pre-launch opt-in emails. That is explained more in these blog posts. When launching a product on Kickstarter, how and when do you get press coverage?
It's all about building a relationship with these journalists and bloggers. You want them in your pocket long term. Ultimately, they are usually interested in the same things as you, which gives you a chance to connect on a deeper level and make an online friend. If you make a friend, then maybe they can even introduce you to their other journalist friends when the time is right. Ps: when you finally do send them your stuff, keep it short and make sure your visuals get the point off without them needing to read a description. Visual storytelling is huge. Remember: people don't like to readJM

How do I successfully raise money and awareness for my new company (BoatTests101.com) on Kickstarter or Indiegogo?
First thing to do is to research other crowdfunding sites other than the big two as neither was really meant to raise funds for startup businesses. I would suggest something in the nature of www.crowdfunder.com or www.seedinvest.com might better suit your needs.SG

Launched my first startup yesterday and didn't get as much momentum as expected. What is one area of marketing would you focus on?
Good luck! Forget about SEO. This is just a temporary improvement. Not worth your effort right now specially if you have to pay. If is free, take it as long as it doesn't distract you with "useless busy" work. Focus on the emails. This has huge upside potential!! A video is a powerful tool that automatically enables you to connect with those who share your interests and can make people find you simply because they like you. This also reassures them that you haven't forgotten about them, that you are doing what you can but also need the communities help. Share this on all your social networks. Leverage the power and newly harnessed interest of Periscope or Meerkat of both and announce(schedule) through Twitter a video pitch of what you trying to do. This will get you potential viral spread if you ask your viewers to use a hashtag or to simply tweet your live streaming. If you have backers you're doing something right, you just have to now drive traffic to the campaign. Not really work on the pitch itself... Now you're in the numbers business... :) Humberto Valle Best of luck.HV
