It depends highly on the company's stage - number of employees, money raised, revenue, etc.
I'd recommend you look at comparable companies by stage on www.angel.co and see what others are being offered from an equity + cash comp standpoint for Head of Marketing / CMO type roles.

I am building a marketplace and am in the pre-launch phase - should I focus on signing up buyers, sellers or both before we launch in 2 months?
I'm a positioning and messaging expert, working now and previously for several software companies in CMO type roles. Ideally you'll want to focus on your propositions to both sellers and buyers independently. You concept is dependant on providing the mechanism for bringing these markets together, so a failure on just one side means a failure for the system as a whole. Focus early on what works and what doesn't for each group, and what's broken in the relationship options they have today. Nail your positioning and messaging to each specific side of the relationship, then create test campaigns and landing pages for each. I wouldn't try wrap it up in one landing page just yet, make sure you understand what's working for both the buyers and the sellers independently first. Good luck, drop me a line if you'd like to speak further on it!MS

Should we allow users to use our app in beta or wait to launch until the app is ready?
Congratulations on the launch of your Beta testing! That is half the battle. My advice would be to slowly do another round of Beta testing and inviting people who you know will give you good feedback and help you improve your app. Then in the mean time get PR to pump up your app again for launch in a month. Not every app when it launches is perfect, we all have to update apps on our phone constantly so do not be afraid to go live. If you would like to set up a phone call I would love to chat more in depth because I have two friends who have get apps that I may be able to connect you with who have been in the same shoes as you!LC

Is guest blogging the best way to grow a startup from scratch?
It depends on what your startup does but if content is key to its success its better to start with your own content to get traction and build a following then use guest bloggers to expand your reachKF

In scenario of a marketplace website is it wise to go live where you have limited suppliers to test your idea which may cause user disappointment?
So long as the suppliers are able to deliver a basic level of service that would create a positive experience for the purchaser, I'd say that it's reasonable to conduct the experiment. Marketplaces always face liquidity issues in the early days. Happy to talk to you in more detail in a call to better understand your current MVP and roll-out plans and provide some more specific advice to you.TW

What is the best suggested method and strategy to launch and market a unique mobile and web messenger app to a global market?
Hi, Good luck with you venture! You basically have two options. Funded vs. bootstrapped mode. Assuming you are not going to look for investment for this particular project, your other option is to bootstrap. Bootstrapping is becoming more and more popular nowadays, since it lets you gauge the reaction of the market very early. I recommend following Pieter Levels about this on Twitter and other media. And I suggest watching this is a generally working - good model of how to launch a product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6reLWfFNer0 Best Ozzie.OD
