MenuWhat are some affordable vendors to support mass texting to multiple groups of customers (for a nonprofit)?

If you have a developer on your team, Twilio is pretty simple to set up and extremely cheap (fractions of a cent per text message).
As your system gets more complex, though, a custom solution may be a bigger hassle than it's worth. It depends on how technical the people on your team are, I suppose.
I've built simple systems like what you're after, and once the upfront cost is taken care of, the cost of sending messages themselves is negligible. Provided the system doesn't need to change or add functionality frequently, of course.
If a custom solution is something you're interested in, I'd be happy to walk through the implementation details with you or your team. Good luck!
Hello,
If you could answer the following:
1) What country are you aiming at?
2) How many messages are you likely to be sending monthly?
3) Do you require inbound SMS?
4) Do you have technical expertise in-house?
5) What programming languages do you have available?
Regards,
Kyle
Thanks for the answers so far. There is zero technical capacity on the side of the team; they are considering this as a long-term strategy, so there might be an interest in a custom solution ... but for now, they are probably looking at a third party solution that they can evaluate for a few months.

What is the best technology for developing a new mobile app from scratch?
There are two sides to that question. One is the mobile app itself and the other is the backend. If I misunderstood in any way and you didn't mean "native" app I apologize in advance. On the backend, there is no clear cut answer to which is the "best". It depends solely on the developers you are able to get. We for example use Node.js , mongoDB, redis, elasticsearch and a couple of proprietary tools in the backend. But you have your pick of the litter now both on the backend api and the datastore with the myriad of options available and touted as the "best" currently on the market. Now on the app side again it solely depends on what you need your mobile app to do. Experiencing first-hand "develop once, run anywhere" I can say it's more like "develop once, debug everywhere" to quote a Java saying. We have tried Phonegap and Titanium Appcelerator and we have switched to native (ObjC and Java) after a couple of months of trying to go the hybrid route. The reasons behind the choice are as follows: - anything that breaks the pattern of how those frameworks NEED to operate is just a huge technical debt that keeps accruing a huge interest. - anything that uses css3 accelerated animations on Android is buggy at best and slow as hell at worst on any lower (< 4.1 I think) versions of Android I hope this gives you some insight. I have several startup ideas. How do I decide on my technology stack?
You need to be able to get feedback on your product as quickly as possible, so my advice is to choose the technology stack that will allow you to build a prototype efficiently. There's no right answer here: for some people it's LAMP, for others it's node, for others it's a Windows stack. Worrying about the technology at the stage you're at is a red herring: worry about the product, the problem it solves and the user experience of your solution, and get feedback you can iterate on as quickly as possible. I'm a serial startup CTO who's now a startup founder and CEO. Let me know if I can help.BW

I have been developing an idea on my own for sometime now. Recently,a potential competitor has surfaced. Should I reach out to them? What should I do?
Here are your options: You can only compete with them If you're able to either: A) Get a programmer: - Either raise necessary funds to hire one full time. See my answer on ("When is the right moment to approach investors?") - Use your own funds to hire a freelancer. See my answer on ("How do I get my game from Prototype to Demo?") - Or convince a developer to join you as a cofounder for equity. See my answers on that topic ("Where do I find a co-founder to join my team?" --And-- "How and or where do I find a stellar Partner/CEO") B) Learn how to program it yourself, and program it yourself - Either have enough time and motivation to learn programming fast enough (could be very difficult, depending on how far along you are, and what you're trying to program) - Or there are several methods you can potentially use (depending on the complexity of the app you need) to make an MVP without programming. For instance MIT App Inventor (http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/), or Marvel App (https://marvelapp.com/) Otherwise: A) Either see if you can join the competition. If you contact them and can convince them that you have something to contribute, they might let you join the team. See my answer on that topic ("How do I approach a business with an idea?") B) Or come up with another idea, and see if you can do steps A or B before someone else starts implementing the same idea Send me a message if you want to discuss any of these, or other options in more depth. In any case, I wish you the best of luck, LeeLV

How do I manage and automate auto responders and customer communication with Capsule, Mailchimp and Freshbooks?
You need to think about these auto-responders in terms of events. If you can put data up on MailChimp when an event takes place, you can manage auto-responders off of that data. Here is some additional information from their website. http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-do-i-create-an-autoresponderJM

How "Whatsapp" generated lots of traffic among big competition?
They've kept it simple, you don't need to fill up sign up forms and remember your user name. Your GSM SIM card is your identity. Secondly, they tightly focused on SMS market. Didn't go for multi party video conferencing, screen sharing, and other seemingly cool stuff.NA
