MenuDoes anyone have a simple way to remove bot traffic from Google Analytics?
Hello. I am trying to determine how to examine my web traffic without all the spam/referral bots. There's a ton of stuff on Google but I cannot seem to find a method that's straightforward and simple. Does anyone have expertise in this area? Thanks!

I would write it out for you, but my friends at SwellPath already have:

Enjoy!
Hi there, have you read this already?

It's generally done via filters at the profile level. Set up one profile without this filter, set up another with it, and then examine the differences to see if it's performing as expected.
Hope that helps!
A lot of these links on how to fix this are out there now but the fact is they only work up to a point. You still have to monitor and exclude them one by one, playing a game of whackamole. I'd really like to see Google Analytics implement a "referral spam" ID on these links and enough of these can eliminate them from everyone's lists. Ah well, one can dream.

What is the best tool to visualize different types of data? I have all the info on my website but need a nice tool to visualize it.
Depending on the data, you can either use one of the following. Google Spreeshet / Charts: I use this for real time analytics generated from our system to quickly visualize the information. There's a simple JSON API that lets you pull that in although their is limits on the amount of rows you can use. Geckoboard: They provide dashboard type widgets you can configure to show you real time trends and information. Highcharts.com: Simple chart generator. We use this in our Admin Dashboard to visualize all our data include cohorts and weekly KPI's. I like simple and free.DM

I work for a web design agency. We are trying to make decisions based on data. How do I know which user tests to run and when?
Sorry to be a bit blunt in my answer, but the client hired your "e-commerce web agency" to do e-commerce conversion optimization, yet your company doesn't know how to do e-commerce conversion optimization? Perhaps have a conversation with someone in your company or talk to your manager or the agency principal and encourage them to hire for e-commerce conversion optimization expertise. It's an entire discipline requiring years of experience and track record in driving higher conversions for e-commerce sites (in my opinion). In lieu of that, how many marketing dollars are going to be spent to drive traffic to the site and who is managing that part? Often new start-ups will spend so much of their dollars BUILDING the site, they don't leave much money to spend on AdWords or other methods to drive traffic to it. The amount of traffic will help determine how many tests to run and how often. Usually we start with two very different landing pages (do you have landing pages?), then fine-tune the split testing down to things like headlines and photos. The checkout pages, especially any pricing pages, are also critical in the testing. Is it a brand new concept or established product/service? If brand new, it will take very well-crafted pages to get visitors to pay money for something (vs. a trial). If established, why is your product best and why should I buy now? You should map out the conversion flows to the confirmation page (success page) and measure the drop-off or conversion rates at each step. Test different elements/pages at each step. Also measure things like average cart size (if more than one product), revenue per transaction and long-term customer value. Hope that helps. Best wishes to you!BC

What's the best way to manage over 200 domain names? I want to get a landing page set up on each.
I have been managing multiple domains/sites for my clients since a few years now and I think the easiest and best way to do it in your case would be setting up simple WordPress sites on each one of them and managing them with something like ManageWP(https://managewp.com/) . If they're niche domains, you can monetize them through ads or use them as affiliate sites. Selling them can also be also an option. If you can get the sites to look fairly nice and if they are niche domains, you can sell them on sites like Flippa(https://flippa.com/) . Overall, you have many options. I'd be glad to help you in detail through a call if you want.AT

What are the major headaches of your daily data related work?
It's unlikely I'm part of your target demographic for this question. But you've given me the opportunity to vent; therefore vent I shall! Gripe 1: Yesterday I spent hours writing a parser that takes a raw-text output from Bob's database and chops it up appropriately for insert into Bill's database. If Bob would just give Bill access to the database, then such a parser wouldn't be required. Gripe 2: I spend an inordinate amount of time coding up processes that really accomplish nothing but data entry. The tasks are too small for it to be worthwhile to program spiders to crawl the information sources, but they're too significant to neglect. I'd much rather outsource this stuff, but I spend more time explaining these one-off tasks to people overseas than it takes me to perform them myself! Gripe 3: Many of my data-collection tasks are massive and repetitive. Does anyone out there know a good source of trainable crawlers / scrapers? My difficulty is that I need them for a series of unpredictable mid-term tasks rather than a consistent long-term task.JP

How can I track all of my customers conversions, clicks, etc on a limited budget?
Much, if not all, of what you are looking for can be accomplished in Google Analytics using their Conversion Goals. I am not sure about *all* of it - specifically the information you want the merchants to have access to. There are tools that do analytics better and more detailed for applications like this, but GA is the best for your price point. You will want to plan for growth and moving to a more comprehensive solution, as your web app grows. Questions, comments, concerns, gripes, compliments or complaints? Book a call.SN
