MenuWhat would be the appropriate steps to take a job as an entry level sales associate at a high end retail store and procure a pay raise?
Looking to ask for an pay increase by providing more value through extensive product and brand knowledge of which is not typically required of a sales associate.

Hi! I'll start by saying that this is a tough one. I personally employ several sales reps, some 100% commish while others take te bigger of two: commissions for that period or a predetermined hourly rate (if they feel they won't do as good that week)
With that said, these type of jobs tend to pay only on production, merit based, not presumed value. But that doesn't mean you can't work around it.
Try:
1. Use a speculative wage offer approach... This is you identifying gaps in the firm and offering solutions in lieu of the opportunity and pay increase...
2. Speculative application doing the same at another firm...
Assuming you are barely starting with the firm i would serioiusly recommend you do your best during the review period, while planning to meet and extend your offer to the firm... This is done for high corporate entry level positions as well and tends to work if you pitch yourself right...
Focus on the holes in the firm you can fix,
How much money that will save or generate considering your wage, and the credit the hiring manager will get if all goes great
Good luck
It sounds like you are not paid in the form of sales commission, correct?
The bottom line - out sell your peers and you will move to the top of the pay scale.
Sales people are only compensated on their production. Product and brand knowledge is not an option for a top sales person, it is a minimum standard requirement.
So, do as you are suggesting and master the product and brand. Then, become the most helpful sales person to the customers. And, outsell the others. You will be noticed.
By the way, if you are looking to make a career out of sales - a noble profession - product and brand knowledge is just part of the equation. You will need to master many other areas.

What is the best ERP system or any other system for managing a business?
OpenERP and Zoho are both fragmented modular systems that can be very confusing. Without knowing your industry and complete set of needs, have you considered NetSuite, Sage, MS Dynamics, Aptean or Epicor? Aside from feature sets, implementation and ongoing support and training are critical elements to consider. The other big challenge is getting buy-in from the users. Have you considered starting with an open source or semi-custom, previously developed product and having it customized to your needs? If you would like more information, let's have a phone call so I can better understanding your specific needs and point you in the right direction. If an employee receives another job offer and can't make up their mind, what's the best way to force them to make a decision and stick to it?
It's great that this employee has been transparent about the fact another company wants him. The problem is that this employee is ambivalent about his connection to your Company. Really, under 100 employees at least, this is unacceptable. I would first reflect on why you think he's looking elsewhere. Then, I'd ask him that, admitting that you have failed to create an environment in which he has stayed engaged and motivated on what he's working on. If his answers seem reasonable and you can commit to making the changes necessary, then you won't need an employment contract, he'll stay on his own desire, because you listened to him and improved his situation. If his requests seem unreasonable or you know you won't be able to make those changes, fire him *today.* This situation can contaminate your entire company quickly. Yes, swapping someone out will always be a bit of a setback, but you want *everyone* on your team, feeling motivated and excited by what they're doing. It sounds like you're making your decision out of fear (having to find and hire another engineer) versus what's best for the Company, long term. Happy to talk to you in a call. Problems like this are within the sweet spot of my skills and passion.TW

What's a middle ground between dropshipping and wholesaling for an ecommerce business?
You can use something like Amazon FBA where you send all your inventory to one of their many warehouses around the world and they will securely store it for you. Then, when you have a sale, they will pack and ship the order to the customer for you. They even handle things like returns and customer service. I would recommend checking it out.DG

You need great lawyers and accountants behind you but there are plenty out there that don't remotely get canadian start up land. The answer to your question is they are trying to understand your setup and those questions are totally fair game as its all related to tax etc.KF
