MenuI have a patented idea for a hardware product. How do I go about finding the right partners to create it?
The product is a bracelet with some custom sensors and a bluetooth transmitter, connecting it to a smartphone. I have a bulky working prototype, not wearable, that has to be minified.
I'm a software developer with no experience in hardware development whatsoever.

Crowdfunding is the best option in the present market. It gives you,
1. Early feedback
2. Exposure to more audience
3. VC free innovation / agility
To start with, you may find the below useful:

Hope this helps.

Depends on how connected you are, but what I would do in your place would be to simply ask around my network of friends or old coworkers for a mechanical engineer and a hardware engineer (that's pretty much the minimal team you need).
Basically, find some friends and develop this together. I would not recommend you outsource a prototype. You'll spend oodles and oodles of money on simply trying to get your idea across to people working for money on multiple projects.
What you really want is a few people so enthusiastic about your product that they'll want to develop it because they are passionate about it and think it is cool. You compensate them generously (for instance, by offering them appropriate compensation or equity in your company/business), and work together and launch your business together.
Or you could go the route of trying to outsource everything but spend several years trying to get a product to your spec just in the back and forth and clarifying misunderstandings with the money that goes with it. By the time you get it out ready for sale it might not even be a cool product anymore or such a hot seller. The only way I'd go this route is if I had already done all the design work and only needed someone to build it for me and if it could be done in the span of a few months.
But if you can find people in your network that you can actually talk to, it would be much simpler.
You're a software guy, don't you know any HW and MechE friends from university or previous jobs you could contact?

How much salary can i ask for, getting my first full-time job offer as a business development Exec. and product manager at a hardware startup?
This is difficult to answer because you haven't given us much to go on. What type of hardware are they building, and how big and fast do they plan to grow? It really doesn't sound like they have a growth strategy in place yet, so my guess is you would need to create that for them, right? If that is the case, then you would need to show them how you have helped others in similar situations do the same. When I was trying to land a multi-million dollar client, I had to show how I had already helped a similar client do the same thing they were attempting. If you have that experience, then you can justify by saying, "They paid me X for that service. I know that may be high for your budget (and it should be), but maybe there is a way to work on my salary and also offer something else to compensate for that?" This gives them a framework to start from, and opens the door to equity conversations. It also puts the ball back in their court, but with a little guidance. Most importantly though, don't settle if you don't think you will enjoy the job or career. If you know what it will take to keep you engaged and happy, set that as your stop-limit and don't go lower unless the upside potential is worth it.

I am wondering if there is a technology that allows you to have one device ping another without using wifi, data, etc.? Like a paging system.
Great question - I have worked on several projects relating directly to what you are describing (based on my initial understanding) including providing software interfacing for mobile/PC/TV for large-scale hardware manufacturers as well as for mobile devices connecting to sensors and translating/reading data sent from equipment buried several feet under the ground to track eco changes for contractors. Assuming by device we are referencing mobile/smartphones (and possibly connectivity with hardware on two different platforms?), in which case I would imagine Bluetooth connectivity should be able to get the job done for you. There are really a lot of factors that could go into either how to utilize Bluetooth, or if an alternative path towards connectivity would be required (the device types you're connecting, their congruence/similarity, if there are prompts on the push/pull pinging, where the data from each activity is being housed once completed, geo-relevancy and latency requirements to name a few.) I'd be happy to set aside a few minutes to talk about the details of your project and provide any additional insight I can on how can you connect these devices and build out your system.

I'm building a hardware device for the consumer market. How do i protect the platform?
Your question is stated in an extremely confusing manner, but what I think I understand is that 1) you're developing a hardware product, and 2) you need to pay someone to write code for it, but 3) you're nervous about outsourcing the code development outside the US because you don't want someone else to copy you? Let me know if that's accurate, and if not, please state your question more clearly so I, or someone else can answer it correctly. best, Lee

I have a great idea for hardware but don't have the knowledge to make it a reality. How do I make it happen with no experience?
Your first step is to bootstrap funding to obtain a rough prototype. Then you can seek out additional funding to develop additional iterations of a prototype. If a development expert doesn't weigh in here, contact the countless success stories on Kickstarter to find out what they have learned during their startup process.
