Nic is an ideal product manager. It helps that he understands the product from a technical perspective, keeps a good relationship with marketing and Customer Service to meet expectations, and helps out with QA when needed. As a bonus, he writes beautiful haiku-like acceptance criteria which always made the job more fun. I gave Nic the ridiculous task of creating a scheduling system for a medical school residency rotation.

He did it!

That was only one of many times he impressed me. I first met Nic while I was doing a consulting job for North Coast Engineering. I had to convert their old Novell 3.11 system to 4.1 and it was going to be a long task. Somebody there brought in his son and asked if he could help out. It was Nic. I started giving him tasks and he kept knocking them out. I remember thinking... "I don't know who this High School kid is, but I'm going to make sure I have his number. Smart kids like this are a rare find." I'm glad I kept in touch because I don't think I would have pulled out the contract job without him.
