Two PhDs. The first one was in science at Oxford. The last one was about how to support creativity. I understand research; I understand qualitative research. I learned the hard way. I'm a career course designer and instructor. I've devised ways to help others think about qualitative research and master its techniques, through online courses. I help PhD students around the world.

I've written over twenty nonfiction books for adults and children. Edison's Concrete Piano has been translated into two languages and was optioned for film. I've written magazine articles, academic articles in both science and education, textbooks. I am co-editor of two current book projects, and have a draft of a book about body hair and a memoir, both have been supported by government grants. I am a writing teacher, have initiated and managed numerous writing groups. I'm an educator. I know how to teach people complex skills. I specialize in shifting thinking. I love coaching people about writing.
I am an innovative curriculum developer specializing in online teaching and learning who has experience in postsecondary, K-12, public education, and industry settings. I have developed programs, courses, and a gazillion effective learning activities. My first projects were with CD-ROMs, which tells you all you need to know about how long I've been doing this. I have combined my expertise (and passion) for critical thinking, creativity, and communication with the design of online pedagogy that builds competencies, not just attempts to transfer information.
