I want to take a moment to recommend Jim Lilkendey to those of you on LinkedIn looking for someone to help your business grow in leadership, productivity and creativity.

The world of leadership is changing and people are beginning understand that the administering and managing of events and outcomes is not working. There is a new science that has created new ways of thinking in terms how we lead and how relationships, thoughts, and actions create the futures that we truly aspire to see.

Jim is one of the unique individuals who not only gets it, but knows how to help others see how leading in a new way can bring about the creativity and productivity that others thought to be impossible.

I'm David Bernard-Stevens, President of Leadership Development Group and I know firsthand what Jim can do. I hope you will soon as well...

I have known Jim personally since 2006, when he joined the team at Prioria to help us transition from a young startup to a highly functional organization. Jim made an immediate positive impact to our engineering workflow by implementing agile-based project-management and quality-control processes that allowed us to better execute and track our projects. Jim also implemented all of the financial, sales, and HR business processes and reporting structures that were becoming necessary as the team continued to grow.

In addition to creating and streamlining all of these operations, Jim was also a great teacher, facilitator, and communicator. He increased productivity of the management team by conducting strategic discussions and brainstorming sessions; as well as leading us in team building exercises. He spread his knowledge to the entire organization in many creative ways, including lunchtime workshops where he would teach critical skills such as effective communication.

Jim has helped me grow both professionally and personally, and I consider him a mentor and a friend. I am a better communicator, project manager, and critical thinker thanks to him. Every organization, whether it’s a small business, startup, or established company - needs to constantly grow and improve or risk stagnation (and possibly worse). Just like great athletes, every successful executive needs a great coach standing beside them. There is no better person than Jim to help you raise yourself and your business to new heights of productivity and effectiveness. If you are serious about your success, do yourself a favor and contact him today!

Jim Lilkendey, Startup Advisor. Leadership Coach. answered:

I completely agree with Tom's suggestions, especially joining an existing startup as it reduces you risk immeasurably, while you learn a great deal.

Beyond that, depending on your background and location, there may be nearby resources to support you.

For instance, if you're looking to focus within the technology space, there may be opportunities to attend a Startup Weekend, 3 Day Startup, or similar event, where you can participate with others to brainstorm and beginning implementation on an idea. While this infrequently leads to a viable product straight away, it frequently leads to meeting potential partners and team members for subsequent projects, and can help you learn to ideate, implement and test your ideas in quickly.

Another possibility would be connecting with local incubators or startup/entrepreneurship support organizations/programs. Regardless of the route you choose, consistently engaging with a community of likeminded in individuals will help you start to see more opportunities and gain a better understanding of the startup process, not to mention connections that can help and support you in the future.

Good luck!
