Buying a Business

The richest and wealthiest people on the plant have bought companies to excel their personal net worth and create security for their families and generations to come. You should too! It worked for Jim Pattison, Richard Branson, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Tom Gores... the list goes on and on. Owners spend their life building companies that they later buy and reap the benefits of excessive cashflow and keep the most valuable asset of all… TIME!

Strategically Growing a Company

Start with the end in mind from the very beginning! Do this and you are already 90% ahead of most business owners… and that’s free advice. I have learned many lessons here. I have been under capitalized and in a position where, without the support of bank capital, growing sales meant sheer suffering. You need to be strategic when growing a company and need the ability to align quickly with other partners to access resources you don’t currently have such as inventory, human capital or the almighty CASH!

Selling Your Company

One of the biggest challenges in selling your company is the ability to navigate the process of closing the Deal. This takes years of “doing” and no amount of learning, reading and asking will help you in this arena, unless you are actively in this market every day closing Deals. The strategy should be to build your business and exit it by bringing multiple Buyers that make multiple Offers, then you can retire or buy a bigger company. I maybe over simplifying the process but this is the goal…you become wealthy! You need to start with the end in mind or this may never happen. There is no substitute for the process involved and you usually only get one shot taking your business to market. My advice would be “don’t mess it up!”, and I can help!

Raising Capital

My advice is really simple, know what it is you need and be clear about what it is you expect from a partner. You always hear about the fairytale stories and how they became extremely wealthy and drove off into the sunset. Well, for every fairytale, there is 100 others that ended in disaster. Raising Capital can come in many forms… Friends, family, Venture Capital, Private Equity etc., one thing is for sure, they all have pro’s and con’s. The danger lies in the areas you didn’t even knew existed! Even accountants and lawyers can fall victims to the “sharks” in the business of raising capital. Get an objective opinion on how to navigate these waters before you find yourself sinking!
