From a young age, Dan has had a keen interest in personal fitness and physical activity; he regularly competed at a local and national level as a 400m runner and high jumper until a hamstring injury ended his athletics career at the age of 18.
This led to an active interest in Sports Medicine, and consequently transpired into successful entry into Medical School at the University of Wales College of Medicine. Alongside the extensive academic and practical work entailed with training to be a doctor, Dan also worked towards becoming a personal trainer, and in 2003 he gained certification through the American College of Sports Medicine. Prior to this, he gained certifications with Premier Training and Development (now Premier Global) as well as Michael King Pilates.
In 1999 Dan pursued his passion for fitness and started working as a personal trainer. This subsequently led to him opening his first personal training centre in 2000 situated in Cardiff city centre – Fitness 4 Your Future Personal Training Studio. The company employed some fantastic personal trainers, and were doing between 150 and 200 training sessions per week. In addition to this, Dan took a year out of Medicine to complete an intercalated B.Sc.(Hons) in Human Anatomy. Dan also enjoyed working in some of Wales largest organisations giving lifestyle management seminars.
In July 2004 Dan successfully graduated as a Doctor (M.B.Ch.B.), gained registration with the General Medical Council and sold his personal training business. Whilst working as a doctor, Dan has gained experience in a variety of fields including orthopaedics and musculoskeletal medicine, rheumatology, plastics and cosmetic surgery, and most recently; accident and emergency medicine. He has published a number of papers and has presented at a number of national meetings and conferences.
With his entrepreneurial flare and love of fitness, nutrition and supplements, Dan is now a regular piece of the furniture in the fitness world. Dan is featured in a mass of magazine copy throughout the globe, owns a successful social media consultancy business, is the C.E.O. of fitnessinventor.com, the inaugural fitness, nutrition and supplements, questions and answers website, with fellow Muscle & Fitness writer Mark Gilbert, and co-author of the new books published by Muscle & Fitness, "HIIT" and "A guide to sports nutrition and supplements". Dan plugs that gap between the medical and fitness world.
