I started in machine learning in 1992. My doctoral research was on building simple and fast neural nets comprising discrete weights. Later, I was fortunate to work on building intelligent systems for a major US airline and a well-known auto parts supplier. Both of those systems were to be built using neural nets, but I found easier, more dependable ways of achieving the desired result. I have mostly worked in universities. My industry stints include being CTO of a brokerage company; CEO of two startups; consultant for software process improvement; industrial controls engineer. I started my career as an accelerometer-systems engineer in the Silicon Valley. Currently, I am a machine learning/predictive analytics researcher. I am always on the lookout for early-stage investment/advising opportunities in machine learning.
