I started in machine learning in 1992. My doctoral research was on building simple and fast neural nets comprising discrete weights. Later, I was fortunate to work on building intelligent systems for a major US airline and a well-known auto parts supplier. Both of those systems were to be built using neural nets, but I found easier, more dependable ways of achieving the desired result.
