Ethical Leadership for Grassroots Organisations

Working with the Myanmar-based NGO, Mote Oo Education, I co-authored an ethical leadership course tailored to the needs of grassroots organisations in Southeast Asia.

The course is due to be published later in 2020, and is currently being trialled by a wide range of educational organisations, NGOs and community groups across the region.

Writing, Editing and Publishing

I have written for major international publishers including Knopf, Scholastic, Granta and Dorling Kindserley (DK). I contributed to DK's global bestseller "The Philosophy Book", and have consulted for them on a number of other projects. I have also written for international news media, including the BBC.

I have taught publishing at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and have experience with all stages of the book publishing process. I have also worked with NGOs and other organisations, developing their writing and publishing skills.

Education

I have worked in universities in the UK, China, Myanmar and elsewhere. I was associate professor at Dr Montfort University, UK; visiting associate professor at Sichuan University, China; and visiting professor of humanities at the Parami Institute, Myanmar. I have a PhD in Philosophy and an MA in anthropology.

I have also worked on a wide range of education projects in the community, with adults, and for NGOs since 2004.

Philosophy, Creativity, Coaching and Wellbeing

I am a trained philosopher. This training enables me to combine both creativity and rigour when it comes to solving practical problems.

As well as writing both popular and academic philosophy — including several books for DK, and a popular book on practical philosophies of happiness ("Think Deeply and Flourish", Icon Books 2017) — I have also used my philosophical skills to consult for a wide range of individuals and organisations.

My clients have included both organisations and individuals, including: arts organisations, NGOs, academics, and writers. I am concerned with how the resources of philosophy can be put to use for practical benefits.
